Breastfeeding

Okay I am breastfeeding Aliviyah and my milk came in last night. Well I was so swollen I couldn't move with out it hurting and her making a nipple cause they were so hard. I don't have a breast pump yet, so me and Greg pumped using our hands and a breast milk storage bag. I still want to breast feed her, but since they have become swollen I've been pouring my milk into her bottle. It seems like she gets the milk to fast. Are there any suggestions on how to slow her down, and should she burp after each feeding? Hopefully it all gets easier, as I'm still enjoying every minute of it. I guess I'm just looking for some breast feeding advice. =]

Thanks girls for the advice. I finally got a breast pump and have been pumping. It has helped tremendously with the pain. The shower advice works, it helps drain some of the milk. =] Lol.  I do still give her a bottle so daddy can feed her and at night when its a little easier since I'm so tired and latching can become difficult at times. But all is well. =] As for her getting her milk to fast, I started sitting her up when she feeds with the bottle and it has helped, she doesn't spit up anymore. I guess we are all learning and trying to figure out what works best. =] Thanks again!

My doctor suggested that when my boobs got too hard to either massage them with my hands to get them to soffen, take a shower and let the warm water run over them, or try placing a warm wash cloth on them.  Now I have never tired that because I'm not BFing any more, but from what they say, it should work, along with give you some comfort.

Also I agree with Latice, trying to let her nurse is the best thing, so she doesn't develop a prefrence to the bottle over your brest.

Any who I hope this helps a little bit... and defintally let us know how it goes, and if anything that I've suggested works, I'm curious to know if what the doctor's where telling me is ture or not.  Good luck!

well when trinity drinks 2 fast at the breast i take her off n try to relax her, but if she is supper hungry she cant relax. she has not choked or anything.  with bottles the swallow even faster bcuz they dont have 2 s uck as hard, BF takes effort 4 them.  ihave a bottle that is suppose to resemble a nipple and she has to do her mouth like a duck on the bottle to be able to suck it, just as if she would have to do with the nipple.  Babies can get confused when going back n fourth between bottle and nipple, and prefer to do the one that is easier,  do you plan on givn her breast milk threw bottles or are you going to do both.  But havn her BF while your breast are swollen will help you breast come down, especially if there swollen bcuz its full of milk.  I thought my breast were engorged but the lactation consultant said if i was, i would not be able to move at all and the breast would feel like i had knots in them.  She said your breast are full of milk and needs to come out, the baby started crying and my shirt was litterally wet, and i had on breast pads, so i had to leave out of there with a wet shirt lol.  I say let her nurse at the breast to help your breast and so she can learn to latch on properly, i think thats one of the problems most of us was having was baby latchn on properly and painful nipples.

Hope that helped a little bit.  Also read some of the other threads the girls had about breastfeeding, might find an answer in that to.
