Early bedrest per OB request (due to water retention)

Ok ladies so today I started my weekly check up with my OB and he was not too happy. I gained a total of 4 lbs in two weeks and my legs, feet are swollen. He is concern that I am retaining too much water and that's causing my weigh gain to go out the roof. He gave me a letter not to return back to work after 8/28 which puts me at 37.2 weks. Baby is growing fine with strong heart beat. Also, when he checked my cervix I have not dialted at all and I am completely SHUT. He doesn't think this baby will be coming anytime soon, I may even be late.... =(

Ladies, do you have any suggestion for my water retention? I don't eat anything with salt so I have no idea what's going on. Please give me your inputs on how I can reduce this water retention. My doc wants me to REST REST REST. When I told him what I did for a leaving he left sorry for me and was like "ok that's it, you are not working pass 8/28". I'm kind of mad at that b/c that means my FMLA will kick in earlier..................but oh well.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Latrice, I am a Policy Analyst for the Dept of Defense in DC. I am constanly in meetings and sitting down in front of PC ALL DAY. Things have been quite busy at work too so that doesn't help me much. Most of my meetings are early in the AM so you can imagine how tired I am knowing I have to be at work at 6am or 7am in the morning and still have to drive 45 mins to and from work each day 5 days a week. Not to mentioned if there is traffic it makes me about 1 1/2 to sometimes 2 hours to get home. By the time I get home I have to make dinner and then next thing you know it's time to go to bed. I will be counting down til August 28th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Sorry to hear about your water retention.  Maybe try eating some bananas.  Of course drink lots of fluids.  The heat does not help.  Try to stay cool.
Don't worry about not being dilated.  I wasn't dilated one bit with my first born.  My water broke at exactly 38 weeks.  You just never know.

Airqueen what do you do again, i forgot.

Im a nurse and ive been off work since July 10th and bcuz i was per diem i dont qualify for any benefits so im on my own as far as getting money to pay bills.  But at least im not dehydrated or having contractions, bcuz thats what happened when i was working 8 and 12 hour shifts

Hang in there, its almost over, im dreading my dr appt 2mrw, i dont want to hear the words your cervix is long and closed, i dont want to go past my due date.

I understand! I'm sorry sweetie! hang in there though. That's how I felt..everything was great and then WAM...normal life is over. Pregnancy comes with it ups and downs. As soon as you have your little guy...you will forget everything you went through! that's nice though that you will be able to work at home! not everyone gets that option. Just take it easy..and know you don't have much longer. =) *hugs*

yeah, i'm pretty emotional right now. Everything was going so well and then BANG! Surprise surprise. I know I was getting swollen especially in my legs and private part but I didnt think it was that bad. Obviously it is. I had a conversation with my boss and he was really understanding. They even got something for me to rest my feet on and told me not to walk around! I'll be taking my laptop home and will work from home after 8/28..

Oh you poor thing!! Join the resting club! =) I think the only thing that can help is staying off of your feet and trying to stay well hydrated, and of course watch your salt intake. But I don't know too much on it...I've never experienced it before. Hang in there! I know you have dilated yet...but don't worry, things can always happen pretty quickly...ya never know!
