Colic?!

Owen seems to be unusally fussy lately and I was wondering how you could tell if he possibly could have colic?  He's got a doctor's apt tomorrow and I would like to bring it up to the doc, but I'm not sure how I could know.  Or what I can do right now to help make him feel better, last night was miserable, he cried for about 3 hours on and off, and we tried feeding him changing him and NOTHING seemed to work.  Oh and we tried chaing his formula too to see if that seemed to help, and he took the bottle just fine, but we got the same resluts of him crying afterward, for not apparent reason.  He wasn't hot and he wasn't cold and it was way to early in the night to give him a bath and to put him to bed and risk being up with him crying all over again in 2-3 hours.  And I have to say that I was feeling hopeless last night, like I was a terrible mother because I couldn't for the life of me figure out what on earth was wrong with him.  So I sat on the couch and cried to the hubby, who tried to make me feel better, but how can I feel better when my son is crying in the other room... and I can't help but feel crule and inhuman to just let him cry.  *sigh* Even holding him made him cry, and the pacifier he would take for about 5 minutes and once he'd fall asleep it would fall out of his mouth, he'd be up crying agian... and usually that works when he's upset, but not last night.  And I dunno what else it could be.  Oh his ambicial cord feel off yesterday-today (I mean it was loos when we gave him a bath at 11pm and by 4am it had lossened even more and by 7am it was compleatly off) so maybe that could be causing him some pain?!  I just don't know and being this is my first child I don't want to screw things up.  Any who I think I'm going to try and read up more on colic on the internet and see if possibly he could have that... If any of ya'll have infro or and advice PLEASE let me know I'm despret, cuz I really would like to avoid the crying on and off every 5 minutes for three hours like last night.

My son seems extremely fussy, but I am pretty sure he is gassy. The doc told me I could give him some chamomile tea in a bottle and I have also been putting warm compresses on his belly. I know it's gas only because he whines and fusses and then pushes really hard and gets red. He just can't get it out. We also bicycle him and that usually helps to loosen things up, but he still cries and fusses and it's so hard to calm him down. It's happens at random times during the day and I feel like I can't do much to help him. But he is still having BM's like normal after every feeding. It seems like nursing him on both sides helps to get the gas out or BM.
I hope Owen feels better soon, but I have no clue how to tell if a baby is colic or not. I'm not sure Jesse is considered colic, but I have been thinking maybe he is. My first son was gassy and fussy as well as an infant, but I don't remember it being this bad.

I was using the Similac Advance (the blue one) and every time I made a bottle it seemd like the formual and water combination would get tons of bubbles in it(no matter how I mixed them), and I switch him to the Enfamil Premium with triple gard... And I have noticed that when I make a bottle using that it seems to be less bubbly...

Any who I have done some reading on colicy babies... Now Owen is only two weeks old today and they say the that if a baby crys for 3 or more hours out of the day that there is a good possiblity that he/she has colic...  And I was trying to think about how much total time he seems to fuss during the day, it's only really after feeding that it last for an extended period of time, when he's not wet... and not hungry, not hot, not cold.  And he does seem to have alot of gas.  

Also the other thing that someone had said was their son was only pooping once a day, well Owen does the same thing, but it seems normal for him since it's not hard, formed, nor pelet like, and it doesn't smell and it looks like what they say and the pictures I have seen of formual feed infants, but I will mention that to his doctor tomorrow, too.  I just feel bad when he fusses for a long peiord of time espeically if he's in pain :( and I've also read that there isn't really a full proof treatment for colic, which is kind of dishearting, but we'll get through it.

I'm going thru the same thing with Brandon. He tends to cry and be awake from 7am to 11 am crying none stop. I feed him and then he goes to  sleep for like 5 mins and then it starts again. I noticed he wasn't passing a stool (at least 3 times per day like Ped recommend) so I called the Ped and informed them of that. I think that;s why he was so fussy and irritated. Are you giving your son formula? The colic could be coming from that too....

It might be too soon for you to be able to read those crys. Bella seems to have one 2 or 3 hour period every day where she can't be soothed. Nursing, burping, pacifier, rocking, only seem to give her about 5 minutes of peace at a time before she starts yelling again. I can tell the cry and it's not pain, it's just an angry fussy cry.

I use to do daycare for infants less than a year old and I've seen a few babies with colic. They cry all the time. Nothing will calm them down and it's a painful tummy ache cry. I watched a baby girl who would cry 90 percent of her awake time.

You should ask your ped for sure, but I wouldn't feel bad about it. Just hang in there and know sometimes babies just get fussy.

Only thing i can remember when i had my son is he would cry after every feeding for a long time, so i took him to the er and they said he had colic.  14 years later, when i looked up information regarding colic it says something about pain in the stomache, that could be caused by gas, too much air etc.  Have you tried frequently burping Owen, when i bottle feed trinity she gets some air in her, and i burp her a lot, when she breast feeds she doesnt really get any air.  Im not sure what they gave me for colic 14 years ago but you can go by some gas drops for the baby and see if that helps, it starts with a m, cant remember what it is called, at least you could give it to him today and see if it helps and you can let the dr no 2mrw how it worked.  Also ive read when babies cry and cant be soothed they are in some type of pain they just cant tell us.

I hope Owen gets better, what formula are you using?
