Fifths disease outbreak at my kids school - - nervous!!!

I swear, there's always something to worry about.  Just my luck...   Fifths disease is a rare childhood illness, a virus that hardly ever happens, but we currently have an outbreak of it at my kids school...  It's sometimes called slap face disease b/c they get red cheeks as if they have been slapped, followed by a body rash, a low grade fever and cold/flu like symptoms.   It's not a major concern for children,,,  HOWEVER the school nurse sent a note home and says that pregnant ladies who are exposed, and who are under 20 weeks pregnant, have an increased risk (20% risk) of fetal death / miscarriage!!!  (I'm 19 weeks) There's not much that can be done to prevent or treat this either!

Aghhhhhhh!!!  I called the dr. today and they sent me for a blood test to see if maybe I had it as a child and have antibodies/immunities against it,,, but I don't thinks so.  I'll let you know the results as soon as they are available to me.

I'm very nervous,  My kids are around this every day at school...  eeeeeeeek!

Please pray, ladies.   Thank you so much.

Thanks!  I was thinking someone else on here recently had this scare.  Glad you were immune...  I hope I am too!

My 12 yr. old went to a sleepover at a kids house this weekend.  The kid's little brother is 10 and is in my other son's class at school.  They came home telling me about a rash the "little brother" had, it was all over his face and body...  =(

This is just such a small town we live in.  This stuff is spreading like wildfire...

I made my kids stay at my mom's last night, just to be safe.  I think I may limit my contact with them for a week or two...  =(   My 10 yr old turns 11 in 3 days and I don't want to have to stay away from him on his birthday...

*sad*

I had this happen a couple of months ago, they actually thought my daughter had this, so I went in and got a parovirus tieter (sp sorry I'm at work brain on overdrive lol). They said most people are immune...I was. Good luck, your in my thoughts.

That totally *****! I can't believe that....I've never even heard of it, I'm sure you'll be fine and I will keep you in my prayers. Don't worry yourself to much though...it's not good for the babies.

XOXO
