Maternity Leave

Ok, ladies, have you thought about how long your going to take off of work after the baby is born.

I plan on taking 3 months off. If DF is working by then I will be taking a leave of absence, hoping to wiggle 8 months of leave from the job.

What about the rest of you.

I was wondering about doing what you are thinking about.  I don't see why I can't take my FMLA plus my vacation time separately.  If I don't want to be paid during FMLA, I just as soon do that.   That will give me about 16 weeks off total time for time home with the baby.

It makes perfect sense, because I can take my PTO off now without affecting my FMLA.   During FMLA I will get about 7 weeks of short term disability.   So that will leave me with 5 weeks unpaid.

I am taking the full 12 weeks off.  I wish I could take off a little bit longer because that would put me back to work mid December.  Who wants to go back to work right before Christmas??  Not me.  Infact, that is normally when I take off for vacation is the week between Christmas and New Years.  I am taking classes for Medical Transcription and am hoping to be able to work from home.  I am hoping that if I do have to come back to work, that it won't have to be for very long!

Gosh i screwed up the above post big time.  I'm still half asleep today.

I meant to say I have 7 weeks of time saved up.  It would be nice if I could take that time off perhaps before the babies are born, (since it's twins and i will be miserable,)  and then take an additional 12 weeks without pay after the babies come.

I'm taking the full 12 weeks under FMLA.  I have about 7 weeks of paid leave and 5 without pay (time saved up.)  I didn't think they would let you take any longer than 12 weeks?  It would be nice if I could take my 5 weeks of saved up time, then take an additional 12 weeks.  But I don't think by law they can do that?  And I don't know anything about asking for an additional leave of absence either?

My hubby is only taking a few weeks off.  I wish he would take more.  Under FMLA the daddy can take 12 weeks off also.  But he only gets 3weeks of paid leave, and after that its unpaid and so unfortunately we cant go without his paycheck that long.

I am hoping I can convince my boss to give me 12 weeks. Only 3 of them will be paid but I want to spend time with my baby. Plus with my due date one sept 13 I'm hoping I can get leave through Thanksgiving. That way I can go home to see my family and they can all see the baby. We'll see. If he doesn't guarantee my position for 12 weeks I'll just have to find a new job.

I'm due sometime between Sept 15-18 so I'm hoping to take 3 1/2 months. That's all I can afford to take at this time. My job only allows 12 weeks of FMLA and I already have 3 weeks of paid leave so about 3 1/2 months.

well i want to be happy about this but i dont think i should be but i am temping at the job that i was laid off from in August. i will only be here till May 15th, which is great because i want to be put on bedrest. i plan on trying to get dissability but i know that it wont be much and i know that it iwll only be till the baby gets here. as of now, i will stay home as long as we can make it with one income (which probably wont be long but hopefully) DH wants me to be a stay at home mom as do i so i think i am going to try and take on a few sitting jobs, i have a friend that will give me both of her kids at 50 bucks each for 8 hours and then maybe 10 bucks an hour after that....going to try it and see how i can handle it, once the baby is old enough to have others (especially germy kids) in the house with us....the Lord will point me in the right direction and i have full faith in that!!

dont you just wish that it was as easy as waking up one day and saying, im just going to stay home...
