Where is your baby sleeping at night??
Hi Ladies,
Where is your little one sleeping at night?? After many attempts, dh and I have finally given in and Jake has moved in to our bed during the night. (Dh is now in the guest room!!) Jake is almost 8 weeks and we tried having him in the bassinet beside our bed but we were losing too much sleep with him waking and trying to put him back...unhappily. I usually hold him in bed until he falls asleep and then put him in the bassinet. On Sat night I was holding him and feel asleep. Dh woke me up an hour later and Jake had slid from my arms and was face down on the bed beside me....YIKES!!! Wake up call!! So we have just decided that the best and safest is to make a little spot for him beside me while dh sleeps in the guest room. We will work on getting him to the crib later...any advice? For now we are getting a good sleep with him in the bed. He seems to get up once in the night which is great. Just wondering how you ladies are doing with the sleep thing!?!?

Jesse was doing good at first in the co-sleeper next to the bed, and then somehow he kept ending up in bed with us! lol. since I'm nursing, I usually falls asleep with him at the breast in the bed and he just sleeps so much better cuddled next to me. I know it's terrible, but how else do I sleep? If I put him in his co-sleeper, he fusses way too much and he is gassy enough and I think being next to him helps him. (or so I think!) I WISH I had him on some sort of schedule, but I will get strict very soon. We are getting a new roof and are still sleeping in our living room and Jeremiah is now in our bedroom because the nursery is all torn apart..AGAIN! So, we are all off. Jeremiah hasn't napped the last 2 days because of the noise and when the guys are working on the roof, it's just not safe for Jeremiah to be upstairs. So, once the roof is done, we should be back to a semi-normal schedule, which will be great! I wish Jesse slept more at night. I would be a happier mommy if he did. I'm miserable these days. Jeremiah slept great from day one, so this is a shocker for me.
MaKayla started off in the co sleeper that we would just transport to the bassinet...now she won't sleep in either and sleeps in the bed with us...sometimes on her stomach, mosty on her back...she also likes to sleep on her side....she sleeps the majority of her day, wakes up around 9pm and stays up until 11pm...the past few days she pitches a fit until I give her the breast and she sits on that for about 30-45 mins...she wakes up around 1:30am-2:30a then again between 4:30a-6:30a and again at around 9am...
We have lucked out so far. Sam seems to know day from night, sleeping 3-4 hour stretches at night (eats much more often during the day). He settles himself to sleep in his bassinet next to our bed after night feedings. Occasionally he needs to be snuggled for a few minutes before the next stretch of sleep. then he has a long period of awake time between 8-10 AM. We had a bad night with lots of crying a few nights ago, but I think his diaper area was hurting him. I am just crossing my fingers that he keeps up the good habits.
Well it looks like a lot of us are in the same boat so I don't feel so bad allowing Jake in the bed at night. I do put him in the bassinet first but he only really lasts 1-3 hours. I have started trying to nap him in the crib during the day. He stayed in for 1 hour this morning...yay!
I chose in bed w/ me. DH has been kicked out of the bed since our last baby!!! Sad I know, but we will do anything for some sleep :)
Example of our night.....Last night I could get Mary to sleep until about 1 a.m. She woke up at 4, which sounds good, but she was on her stomach and we are not suppose to put our babies on their tummies, which really stinks because Mary seems to do much better that way than on her back. Then I put her with me nursing until she fell asleep. She woke up about an hour later and I switched sides. She slept about another hour and a half, but then I had to get up to get my others ready for school.
I envy any of you who have them sleeping in a bassinet/bed and have some sort of a schedule!!!! I don't know what that is yet........

Mickey kind of is on a schedule...Except yesterday he was awake from 10 AM til 4:30 PM which wasn't normal AT ALL and he wasn't fussy or anything, he was just not interested in going to sleep. I can usually predict whether or not he's going to go to sleep, and know about 15 min before he gets up that I'm getting ready to have to quit doing what I'm doing so I can tend to him. Today he's a bit off, because of yesterday but I'm hoping to get him back on his tentative schedule soon.
Our night usually goes (minus the last couples of nights due to the formula problems which btw, we went to the ped today and Bryce might have an allergy to cow milk. She is having me try enfimil gentle ease and he seems to be doing really well so *fingers crossed*). Anyway, I feed him, burp him, change him and bundle him up tight, put him in his bassinet and as long as I leave the light on (if I turn it off he cries) till he is completely asleep he will usually sleep 3 to 5 hours, each night is different. If he doesn't fall asleep after his feedings which means he's WIDE awake, he usually will throw a fit if I put him in his bassinet so I will just put him in bed with us. If by morning he is still in his bassinet though, I will make a spot on Jason's side of the bed when he gets up for work and put him there. Then we usually get up between 7 and 9. Do all of your little ones eat/wake up after the same amount of hours every day/night? Bryce varies anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to eat and 3 to 5 hours of sleep at night. I hope he gets on a schedule soon!!
He's ended up sleeping in the bed with us because even if I put him in his crib after I rock him to sleep at night, he wakes up and pitches a fit because he doesn't know where I'm at and can't hear me. So the first time he wakes up after we go to bed, he ends up sleeping the rest of the night with DH and I. During the day, he either sleeps in his crib, or I prop him up against the boppy pillow facing the back of the couch, so that when he wakes up I'll be close and either can be heard or am in sight, so he sometimes will go back to sleep if its not time to eat yet. I know I'm going to end up regretting letting him sleep with us, but its so much easier. He lays down about 10 or 11 PM in his crib, sleeps til 3 or 4 AM, I change him, bring him in with us, he eats, burps, and usually falls asleep as I'm burping him, and then he sleeps til 7 AM and we start over. Then he'll sleep til around 11 AM and that's when I get up and he starts sleeping in the crib when he goes to sleep.
At night Bella sleeps in her bassinet until around 4am then she gets fussy, but not hungry so I scoop her up and put her in the bed next to me. Then she'll sleep like that another 2 hours. I would say 70% of the time she falls asleep while I'm burping her or just holding her in general. Only maybe once a day can I put her down and she'll fall asleep on her own. Other than that she has to be rocked or lulled to sleep.
Me and Trinity are still sleeping in the living room, i have a pull out sofa where she sleeps, (it hurts my bac) and i sleep on the adjacent side of the rest of the couch, being she is only 2 weeks 3days old, all my bedroooms are upstairs and im not ready to be going up and down the stairs to fix bottles yet. Sometimes if i dont pull out the sofa bed i put her in the bassinet that is attached to the playpin.
I chose bassinet because at night he'll sleep just fine in his bassinet, only waking up twice, which is nice. However, during the day we are trying to get him aclamated to his own crib, which he usually does all right with as long as his mobile is going. Once it stops and he wakes up, all h e l l brakes loos... but once we get him calmed back down he can usually fall asleep any where... he is enjoying his bouncer and swing more with each passing day!!!
But I will admit that sometimes during the day I'll prop him up with his boppy pillow in bed beside me, so that he can see me if he wakes up... That seems to work for now. but I'm not having trouble with him sleeping through the night, I have trouble with him from about 4pm till 8pm when he's just unconsolable, doesn't want to lay down, doesn't want to be held... ect. So I dunno, the doc doesn't think that it's colic yet... but we shall see how the next few days go.
