Bacterial Infection

My OB office just called and said that I have a bacteria vaginal infection.  My doctor screened  my on Tuesday, like he does everyone.  He said it was indentify a bacteria that causes preterm labor.   I have had  a big increase in vaginal discharge, but didn't think anything of it.  I am really worried because I read that it can also cause a miscarriage.  Anyone know anything about this?  I am 8 weeks tomorrow.

I had BV at about 5 weeks.  I am 8 weeks now.  I know I had it because I have had it many times before, years ago.  I was treated back then with antibiotics but every month, right after my period, it came back again.  I had had enough and did some investigations online.  My saviour was acidophillus.  I used them as a suppository back then and it was brilliant.
So at 5 weeks when I had a hint of BV (after 12 days of spotting) I bought acidophillus and took it orally for three days.  Even after taking it for the first day there was a significant difference.  After three days it was completely gone.
I had my first visit with the midwife today and told her that I had treated myself with acidophillus and she said that was perfectly safe to do in pregnancy.

You most likely have bacteria vaginosis and flagyl is not suppose to be taken in first trimester! I was suffering from this for first 8 wks it will only cause preterm labor in later pregnancy. I finally ended up taking the metrogel supositories at 8wks because I couldn't deal anymore with the symptoms. I would strongly suggest you talk to pharmacist before taking flagyl

Does your doctor plan on treating the infection?  Bacterial infections are pretty common and they are easily treated, so I would not worry too much.  I actually had one and was treated with a topical when I did not realize I was pregnant (like the first week of my pregnancy) and I am now 9 weeks and all is fine.
