How many movements should be there in 5 months?

Hello everyone,

This is my first baby & I am in mid of my 5th Month, and I am feeling many movements of my baby, in a day, almost 20 within half hour. I dont know how many movements is fine, and after how many movements I should be concerned. Please help me in this regard, as I am quite worried if my baby is fine.

And another question is how many ultra sounds are mandatory n in which all months? As I already had my 3 ultra sounds done, (1st when in 15 days of pregnancy, when I found a blood spot, 2nd in 6.5 weeks of pregnancy, & 3rd in my 12.5 weeks of pregnancy) now my doctor is asking to get another ultra sound done, within a week. I have heard that too many ultra sound effects featus health.

Hoping to get response soon.

Regards

Priyanka

Doctor's usually get concerned at lack of movement not too much movement. Regardless, there was a few times I got nervous when I didn't feel my little guy moving around. At around 5 months your uterus starts really expanding so you may stop feeling him as frequently. Try drinking lots of water and laying on your left side or drinking some orange juice to see if he/she starts moving around if you ever feel like you aren't feeling him enough. My OB told me to start doing kick counts once I entered my third trimester. You are supposed to feel the baby kick about 10 times an hour. I don't always feel him moving that much but as long as I feel him moving around throughout the day I am happy.

As for ultrasounds, you have nothing to worry about. You could have an ultrasound done every day of your pregnancy and it wouldn't effect the baby. The typical breakdown of ultrasounds is usually 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 18 weeks, and around 34-36 weeks. 6 weeks is to verify you are pregnant and to see a heart beat, 12 and 18 weeks are to check growth and for measurements (this allows them to verify your due date also) and the final one is to see how big baby is so that you don't deliver an 11 pounder!

I have had a few in between to double check things here and there that I've had minor issues with but this is just as a precaution and like someone posted before, you get to see your baby more! :)

Best of luck!!!

All babies move different amounts, it's the LACK of movement that causes concern.  As for ultrasounds there is no set number.  It depends on whether you have issues with the pregnancy and the specific doctor.  It also depends on what your insurance covers and what country you live in.

I think your baby is fine. When I was pregnant at 5 months..I sometimes worried too...but dont be..remember bab'ys sleep a lot when they are out and I'm sure they sleep while they are inside too. As far as ultrasounds, your doctor knows best and I'm sure he is a expert at what he does, so if he wants another ultrasound it should be fine...hey the more u get to see your baby move inside, the more excited you get.  Good luck!
