We're starting after Kylie is 12 months. Her ped wants to take it really slowly, as I'm lactose intolerant and he wants to watch her reaction to dairy.
I've always started at around 10 months adding small amounts to the formula. 1st one ounce then 2 and so on. We have no history of milk allergies or lactose intolerance in our families so. This time I backed off for a bit because Lily got a virus and had horrid diarrhea that gave her a open, weeping rash on her bottom. So until her poop goes back to normal I'll hold off. She's 11 months today.
I plan on adding whole milk at meal times when Kaelynn is 12m. Thats when the Dr suggested I start. Since I'm exclusively breastfeeding still it will be her main food still. Right now she's teething all 4 molars and wont eat anything so I'm glad she's still on BM. She's even having a hard time nursing right now. I've been pumping and bottle feeding her the last few days.
I didn't change over until my son was 1 1/2, and that was half milk and half second-year formula. Then when he was 2 we went to all milk.
i switched Em a month or so ago....i gave her some of our milk in the morning, watched her during the day and when i saw she had no allergies or reactions i started switching her over....i gave her a bottle of formula here and there but over about 2 weeks i weaned her off formula completely
Em is completely off the bottle now and drinking regular milk....i dont even give her a drink before bed and she is fine, still sleeping 12 hours through the night
i plan on starting to slowly mix in whole milk to her formula at 11.5 months. and then hopefully shes be on only whole milk by 12 months. i only have 7 cans left and i really dont want to buy a whole other case.
