Could it be two?

I was wondering some of the symptoms and signs of twins. I took a first response test at 8dpo and got a very dark positive  immediately. The positive was actually darker then the control line. I thought this had to be a fluke so I took 2 more and same thing. I've also had very bad nausea since before taking the test. My symptoms are definitely magnified. Including needing 3 naps a day and sleeping all night just to function. I always retain water in the beginning but it usually goes away at 4 weeks, I am now 5 weeks and still swelling and very bloated. I can say this is nothing like the pregnancies I've had before (recurrent miscarriages). I do have one son and even with him I didn't find out until missed period. I am high risk already and the thought of twins has me more worried. Also I am a fraternal twin. Can anyone tell me the earlier signs they had? also posted on the multiples forum no luck with answers yet.

Thank you for the reply. I am very worried since the test was so dark so early. i took the test on the 10th and missed period wasn't until the 19th. I haven't found an OB yet since i need a fetal specialist and I'm having trouble finding one. I hope to at least get an ultrasound next week or the week after.

Congrats on you pregnancy!!!

I miscarried identical twins back in November, and yes my pregnancy symptoms were definitely magnified. I also tested 5 days before "missed period" and got an immediate dark pregnant line. The biggest thing for me was I KNEW it was twins, I just knew. Always trust your gut.

Being a fraternal twin increases your chance of having fraternal twins. Identical twins are just random, there is not gentic link.

Share your concerns with your OB and hopefully he/she can get you in for are early scan and put your mnd at ease.

I hope this helps, please keep us posted!!

The only true way to know if it is twin is ultrasound.  However, your doctor can look at your HCG levels and get an idea if it is a possibility.  You being a twin definitely increases the odds, I think.

Every pregnancy is different so it is hard to compare your previous with this one, it may be just a singleton but with different symptoms and it may in fact be twins, again an ultrasound after 5-6 weeks would be the best identifier.

Good Luck!!!!
