Inductions

Hi, i am 36 weeks tomorrow. Doc says he can induce on the 20th if i want. I had an induction for my first child with no complications. What are the risk? And pros vs cons to induction?

I'm not sure why you had an induction the first time. I'm glad it went well for you though.  Of course this is just my opinion I'm not in any way a doctor or nurse, but I do work in the labor and delivery department at the hospital near me.

I don't know all the pro's, to me there are more con's with an induction, but that's just me.

Cons:
1) If your body is forced into doing something it's not ready for, your labor could take hours and even days longer.
2) If you're not progressing within the time frame the doctor wants you to after you've been induced, that could result in the option for a C-section.
3) Your baby may still want to "marinate" in there for a little while longer instead of coming out when you want it to.

Pros:
1) I guess you can sort of pick your baby's due date. (LOL)
2) You won't have to wait until 40 weeks, although they can only induce you for an uncomplicated pregnancy no earlier than 39 weeks.
3) If all goes well, you'll have your baby sooner than you think because the induction just MIGHT speed up your labor.

So, I guess in the end, it's really your decision.  My doctor gave me the same option for this past weekend to get induced, to accommodate for my boyfriends truck driving schedule.  She was going to induce me when we knew he would be home, but I figured, why do that.  If he's home he's home, my body knows what to do, it doesn't need the extra help and I want my baby to be ready when she's ready.

Hope this helps...Good luck...
