I've never had one and I worry I wouldn't be able to sit still for the needle. However everyone I know who have had one say they suffer with pain around the epidural site even years after child birth. Not sure if this actually has anything to do with the epidural or it's just down to child birth as I've had 3 natural births without pain relief expecting no.4 any day and I've always suffered with back aches since my 1st child 11yr's ago. You won't be able to make a decision until you're in labour it'll depend what level of pain you can handle and how quick you progress. I wasn't offered with any of mine my 1st labour was just over 8hours strong labour 2nd 27 minutes and 3rd 1hr 8mins hoping for a quick 4th too. Good luck

I had it Tuesday night after being in labor without drugs for 15 hours. I got induced and was having contractions every min to two mins. I choose to get one bc at that point i couldnt take it anymore and had been throwing up bc of the contractions.  I was allowed to move once we started the inducement so i think it made it worse to deal with them. But he couldnt get in the hole right in my spinal cord so i got poked a couple of times. But i had a bad reaction to it...it gave me bad tremors which were worse than the contractions to me. I had severe tremors for a hour and went another 4 hours of labor before they started my emergency csection. I never dilated pass 4 cm after all those hours and after 3 inducement medicines. When they took the epidural out after i had severe tremors again for a hour. Mine spine was sore for a couple of hours after. Sorry its so long lol

everyone I know has gotten Epidural, don't worry you don't focus on it, & I've been told it'll be quick & then all your pain goes away . I've never heard of it doing harm to anyone. I am 39 weeks on Sunday, As of Thursday I was 3cm & 80% effaced . I'm definitely getting an epidural, don't be scared . It'll all be worth it! Best of luck

I had one with my first child, it wasn't so bad. They just try to keep you focused on other things. I believe I was numbed prior to them actually inserting the needle to keep you from jumping. Good luck!

I hear that they give it to you during a contraction so you're not to focused on the needle.

I am feeling the same way & would like to know the answers to these questions too ! I'm 38+3. No progress besides 1 1/2 cm dilated, he's still not even dropped. But I feel I'll jump too. It can paralyze you I heard.
