Tdap shot for pertussis

I'm 26 weeks and my OB said I needed to get a Tdap shot for pertussis and so does anyone else that is going to be around the baby.  I work for 5 doctors and they all say the samething. I told my parents and all they did was laugh. Is anyone else making their family get one?

Yes i will be asking immediate family members to get it. It costs about $50 here and im worried my family wont take me seriously either or say they got it when they havent.

Honestly the 'cacoon effect' where everyone around baby gets the shot is not very effective - just look on the CDC site or your country's government site. Australia took away free adult shots when new research came through about how little it actually helped. If you still want family members to get the shot, there is also research suggesting the bacteria could show up in airways up to 6 weeks after the vaccine, so make sure freshly vaccinated people are not hanging around your baby. It's safest if they get the jab in your 2nd or early 3rd trimester.

What does seem to help more is early 3rd trimester shots for the mother as baby then gets some protection passed through placenta. But it's pretty recent so there's not much research on long term effects on foetuses even though vaccinating with TDaP during pregnancy is put forward as perfectly safe. I fail to see how it can be assumed to be perfectly safe without long term follow up, but anyway, regardless of the slim chance that there may be unwanted effects, it does seem to be an efficient way of protecting more newborns against whooping cough.
