First ultrasound measured small

I had my first ultrasound yesterday. I am 8w6d. The doctor told me that I'm measuring 2 weeks behind. He said the best case possiblity is that I'm not as far along as we thought and I'm only 6w6d. Worst case is the baby is growing at a healthy rate and that will lead to a miscarriage. I have to wait a week and a half to get another ultrasound and see if my baby grew a mm a day. This is going to be the hardest wait period. Has anyone been through something similar? We did see a heartbeat so that's a positive..

Thank you for all the feed back!! Went for my ultrasound today and there was great growth and a heartbeat. We will have one more ultrasound in two weeks to be completely out of the woods but I feel really good about it! Thank you again for sharing your experiences and well wishes with me. It really helped to hear from people who have been in the same situation.

It's hard to define gestation so early on, it's usually based on your dates and how baby measures. If your dates say 8 weeks they'll expect baby to measure approx average 8 week size,so may say it's small,  but your dates may be out so don't worry too much. Fingers crossed all is OK for you x

This happened to me twice and ended in miscarriage but we didn't see a heartbeat either time. Fingers crossed baby is just a slow grower.x

This happened to me. Went for my follow up scan and everything was OK just turns out I'm 2 weeks behind where I thought I was. Apparently this is quite common and at this stage you shouldn't be worrying too much. Good luck and try to relax.

And the first time I went I didn't see a heartbeat so was even more scared. A heart beat is a good sign :)
