3 year old picking at herself?

My 3 year old constantly picks at her face until there is a sore, then o hicks at the sore. She also bites at her fingers and nails until they hurt and bleed. How can I stop her?

I've bitten my fingernails my whole life since i was a little girl until they bleed and hurt and i pick at my skin as well. It's awful. Nail polish and stuff to paint on nails specifically to stop biting didn't help... Nothing helped until i started seeing a psychiatrist who prescribed me OCD drugs, but i was already well into my 20s so I'm not sure what a pediatrician can prescribe... But ask your doc about obsessive compulsive disorder.

I have a friend who started doing that as a child.. Turns out she has severe ADHD and still does it to this day if she is off of her medicine (she's 21 now). I would definitely take her to get seen about!

My brother has autism and he does the same thing. I would mention this to your doctor and have her evaluated. The way we deal with it is having him wear gloves and trying to desert his attention. Band aids too

Seek a medical opinion. My daughter used to do that (picking at her face, biting fingers etc) and upon lengthy investigation we discovered that she has Aspergers syndrome, we now have strategies in place to help her cope with situations and stimuli that are too much for her to cope with. This is not to say that what you and your daughter are experiencing is exactly the same but to illustrate that things can be done to help our little ones when they can't articulate what's going on. I would ask your doc because that honestly sounds like a anxiety thing or a nervous habbit. The clear nail stuff works but i would ask your doc about the picking. My son used to bite his nails, not that bad but the doc said it was a stress thing, and at the time compared to his life now it was more stressful on him.

You can buy clear nail stuff that taste horrible if her fingers go near her mouth and picking not quite sure.
