Abreviated names. Your opinions?

I'm naming my son Collin James Medas and I am so excited and in love with the name my boyfriend and I came up with. I've told my family his name and they all know how difficult it was to come up with a name that we both liked because my boyfriend wanted him to be a Junior and I didn't want that mainly cause I didn't want an abriveated name. And now their trying to call Collin CJ :( its stressful to me cause now I wanna change his name to avoid it but my boyfriend and I have already been calling him Collin..

I don't even care about nick names, just don't want abbreviated names.

My first born daughters name is Katherine. But everybody calls her different names. My mother is the only one that calls her that, my dad and brother call her Katie and my husband and I call her Kate. It just happens

My son is being named Ethan Trevor and my mom for some reason started calling him George. There is nothing you can do to avoid it unfortunately everyone is going to come up with some kind of nickname.

Sadly what she said is true ^ you can't avoid people giving him nicknames you aren't okay with.

Everyone will call him different names period you can't help that. No matter what name you decide, family especially will always give kids nicknames.
I wanted Violet so bad and nobody wanted to call her that because we are Hispanic so everyone wanted a Hispanic name I gave in and named her Andrea Violet.
Everyone teased they'd call her Juanita (her dad is Juan) or panchita etc different names I would get soooo mad.
Anyway guess what...nobody every calls her Andrea. -_- nobody. Everyone calls her Violet or V.
