Am I overreacting?

My bf insists on buying a rifle (he says for protection & hunting even tho he doesnt hunt) but we live in this little bitty *** apartment where we will share a room w our newborn & w nowhere to really store the gun but in the closet -____-. He thinks I'm overreacting but Im scared baby may get to the gun. Should I compromise for a smaller gun or none at all. Also im really against guns for personal issues ughhh

I don't think him wanting a gun is unreasonable. A rifle is overkill for personal protection though. We have several guns including a rifle that is definitely not for hunting. Lol we just both really like guns. Educating your child when they are old enough is key. Like explain how it works and why they can be dangerous. If you teach your child that guns are bad and stay away from it and that is all you tell them they are naturally going to be interested in it. Anyways for personal protection he doesn't really need anything bigger than a 380.S hotguns are a good self defense weapon. People hear you pumping it and they turn tail and run.  Lol

even if you're a heavy sleeper if you have dogs And your dogs are barking when you get up and see the intruder it should still take you second just to get to the gun and get to the bullets. load of it. Here we have a Dollar Tree where you can buy a little window alarm for your windows they were a dollar each. all my windows have it. If someone opens the window is set an alarm off.

Thanks for all jumping down my neck because you guys presumed I was anti guns!
Haha
I feel so unprotected. .. the most protection in my home tonight is a lock on my doors and a house alarm! !

I think it's on if you all just compromise. I'm use to dealing with guns because I was in the military I also grew up in a bad neighborhood and was no stranger to wreck less gun violence especially when it came to other kids being killed. As long as the parents know how to properly store the gun and use it the child will be fine just make sure they are educated on gun safety and that they aren't toys. I think it's ok to keep the gun in the room when the baby is an infant because I know they aren't getting up in the middle of the night going through my closet lol I actually sleep with a machete under my bed I dnt play!!

Keep a gun at the top of your closet, our closet isnt far for my bed. And maybe keep your bullet in your dresser drawer or and a bedside table. Get the gun get the bullets if you're experienced shoulD take you seconds to load it. A lot of intruders When they break into the home, have to break a window or break your door and by the time that they actually get in and get to where you are you should be able to have your guns loaded and ready.

Rebeccaann11 if I was found to have pepper spray id be arrested!
Its completely unfair !

If I could have a gun safely away from my kid I'd have one. ... only like someone above said about
Curious kids cause accidents I'd probably be worse than a curious child!  I've never seen a gun never mind used one or loaded one...

Our normal soilders aren't armed.

People who live in a house where guns are owned/stored are more than twice as likely to get shot as people who don't own them. Not worth the risk to me or my family.

Missamae when I asked why you'd need/want one I didn't realise you were legally allowed use it without being sent to prison.

Here if you possess a gun boom your imprisoned and your kids are gone. Thats why I asked I didn't realise you could actually use it against an intruder.

@ mommytrishalove  I'm irish and here in Ireland guns are illegal ... thats why I'm so intreagued and clueless about guns! I think its amazing you can keep guns for protection and im sure you learn safe places to keep them.. heck I'd be well up for that I'd feel safer!
.
But one and only thing I don't agree with is keeping a gun in a child's bedroom -

Here I'm not even allowed mace or pepper spray. .. self defence classes tell u to use deodorant! !

When you hear about little children getting shoot at home. The parents didn't store the gun in a safe place. They also had it loaded.
I grew in a very small town. I'm not sure if other towns have a program called d.a.r.e but once you are old enough to go to school they have police once a year cOme and talk to the kids about drugs and gun safety.
If a gun and the Bullets are stored properly and safely You really don't have anything to worry about.
It's also best to keep it high from children but to also inform the of the danger of guns

Put the safety on or bullets and gun in different place as stated above and as for why would someone even need a gun? Why shouldn't I have one? An intruder breaks in with the intent to rape you, then what? Or take all of the things you work hard for, your valuables etc. That robber won't show you mercy why should you show him any? Cops are great and all but do you know the how long they take? You already lose

here in Wisconsin if someone breaks into your house u can protect yourself there was a man who shot n killed two teens (a sad story for both parties n not saying i agree with wat he did just an example) the teens were beating him in the face with a bat cuz they thoughy he as the owner of the building n evicted there friend but he was only the mmaintenance worker n shot both teens protecting his self n was not charged it just depends on the situation but u cant just shoot anybody for no reason

Then maybe you should get educated as well and practice safe handling (: you're going to need to know if it's going to be in the same place as you that way no accidents happen.

No you will not get charged if someone breaks in and you shoot them. You can if you get then in the back though cuz that can prove they were leaving.

My father is a sergeant in the army. In the house I grew up in. It had 2 gun safes.
It can take my dad seconds in a emergency to load a gun.
He has also been deployed 4 or 5 times now. So he also has good experience with weapons.
