Any stay at home mom?

I took a one year sabbatical leave (unpaid) since i was 4 weeks pregnant.  I gave birth three weeks ago and exhausted my sabbatical leave.  I'm now qualified for maternity leave (unpaid) until February. I'm still debating whether I should go back to work or resign ... I want to take good care of my baby girl and enjoy every moment with her but of course I won't get a paycheck.  My husband wants me to stay home.  Anyone here is a stay home mom and mind sharing your financial situation here?  If I don't work, my husband monthly take home is $6k after tax and we get to probably put between $2k and $3k to our savings.  Any thoughts?

That 2k-3k savings may have to be supplemented for your income. Just prepare financially for the extra money to be going to your child, especially if its the first. Stay at home Moms are great temporarily if you are used to working outside of the home. They have to really love being inside four walls to not feel trapped after awhile. Also your bills are going to determine if you can afford it or not, how much your husband makes is irrelevant. Sit down and discuss your financial snapshot with you husband. Congrats on your baby!

I would like to be a stay at home mommy, but unfortunately we need both of our incomes. It seems you have the means to do it. If anything look into a job you can do from home even part-time.

I think it's a personal choice...i have 2 boys from a previous relationship and a working mom..childcare costs are crazyyyy where I am for both boys I was paying 1600$ a month for them to be watched..when they're father and I split and I had to do it on my own I thankfully qualified for subsidy which lowered the cost by half.
I am now expecting my 3rd child with a new partner and he runs his own business with my job I can take a year of maternity/parental paid thru ei and then after I can take up to 5yrs off to raise the baby (unpaid but still holding my senority) I love being available to my kids and not having to worry about when they have sick days as to who will be watching them without having to call into work sick..that being said I also do like my time away from being a mom and enjoy going to work due to the adult interaction and also making my own money...tough decisions and I think it'll be something u decide over ur year off with child and you'll be able to figure out if it fits with you and ur hubby :) will be something I'll be thinking about that's for sure :)

I'm a stay at home not by choice but I am. I'm so career driven its frustrating me. When I'm not working I feel I am idle. I have an 8yr old son and I'm 29 weeks now but I am a student. To each is own with stay at home moms. I love been a mother but not a stay at home mom. I used to working a 9 to 5 coming home cooking dinner, reviewing homework and putting him to bed. I'm not sure of the schedule for the new baby or when I plan to go back to work but it won't be long after I have baby. Good luck to you and congrats to ur baby girl

Have you thought about a home based business? Such as scentsy, pure romance, tupperwear, something you can stay home most of time but still have an income?or maybe babysitting another child at your home?
