Anyone else getting in trouble at work?

I am 8w3d and I had to call in sick this morning due to morning sickness. I am under my juuust 3 months probation period at work (Nov.3 will be 3 months). After I conceived, I thought I had a bad flu and since I work with school children, my doctor had taken me off work for a whole 7 days. My boss was mad, and although he tries to remain professional, he has treated me differently ever since. I feel like I am walking on eggshells and I fear losing my job. I had to inform him of my pregnancy last week (earlier than I had planned to) because he wanted to give me a longer shift and I couldn't handle it with all this fatigue and morning sickness (all day). He looked like he was going to blow a fuse when I told him, and now he won't even say good morning to me at work anymore. Anyone else having problems at work? Any advice?

I know the feeling. I have never had trouble at work, nor finding work. So being on this end of things is new to me. If I lose this job, I am scared I won't be able to get another job until after I have my baby.

Well i had an interview last week at jc penny and even they didnt call me back. I cant even get a min wage job. So im kind of thinking of giving up at this point. Ive been having interviews since i got fired and nothing. This is coming from someone who has a very good work history and experience. Ive never not gotten a job that I have interviewed for until I got pregnant.

I am so sorry to hear that!! I didn't think it would affect me this much either. Are you planning on still finding work? Or have you decided to stop looking until a while after birth??

I lost my job in my first tri. Im a ftm so i was nervous about telling them i was pregnant so i didnt. But i was getting such debilitating headaches i would throw up and even be close to passing out. I went home early a lot and ended up getting fired. I shouldve told them because i havent had a job since. I didnt think being pregnant would affect your ability to get a job so much.

I completely understand that. You are not being a negative Nancy at all. I appreciate your honesty. I have been in management positions myself, and I understand how he must be feeling, as I too dealt with a lot of people being sick frequently. Legally, under 3 months I am aware I can be let go. I was just curious if anyone else was dealing with problems at work, and any idea on how to make the situation better or easier is all.

Honestly other than being upset it doesn't sound like you are getting mistreated. Yes he could be a little nicer and more understanding but it doesn't sound like he is doing anything illegal. If you are within your 3 month time and you have already had to take a week off and have called out sick, then from a management point of view he of course is going to get upset (not that he is justified by not talking to you). And depending on the laws of your state he doesn't need a reason to fire you or let you go within your 30 day probation period and he is within the law to do so, so unfortunately it sounds like you are sick between a rock and a hard place. Sorry to sound like negative Nancy but I want you to be prepared that although it might not be morally right the law is on his side right now

Fmla would have to have so many work hours put in at said job its like 1 yr or 1250? I dont remember the exact hours but you have to be at the job so long.. i had to wait to get mine in a large company i work for. I hate that they are treating you that way. They treat me the same way for USING my fmla which is a federally covered absence...it's cruddy how employers get off treating pregnant women

Unfortunately if you work for a independent business and not a corporation they will try to push you out. If you work for a long business HR is the way to go. But you should research the family medical leave act it is a federal law and may help.

You should talk to whoever is above him he cant do this to you especially if your dr is the one taking you off work.

My work has a union rep, no hr rep. She is just as bad. She is terribly unprofessional, and doesn't keep anything confidential.

If you have an HR rep, talk to them. Or your Ethics department. If your company encourages "open culture," approach your manager directly about it.
