I'm being induced at 8am and I can't sleep and I can't stop crying. I'm so scared of being induced and the pain and scared to meet my little boy because I'm scared I won't know what to do... I've been wanting him out for so long but now that it's pretty much here I'm scared and nervous and excited. Also I'm getting cramping not sure if it's because I'm crying?

Birth doesn't work as well on panicked fear, so breathe deeply and decide whether you actually want to be induced or not.

If yes, then think of calm places, breathe deep, think of your body opening and your little one you'll get to meet soon! Manage your fear by thinking of good things about yourself and baby, not bad. Inductions can be intense, but there's always epidurals if it gets too much :) And some people find inductions fine!

And if you don't want an induction, manage your fear by saying no and removing the thing causing the fear! If it's not a direct medical emergency, cancel over the phone and ask for (or demand) a few days to see if the cramps develop into contractions naturally and ease into labour.

Hey lettyym0928,
Once you get in there you won't worry about anything or anyone but the baby. All of a sudden you will have this motivation come over you to get this baby out and once the baby is out and you hear the cry and see that wonderful child of yours everything will change. Every bit of this worrying and fear you have will seem like nothing when you look back on it. The mothering skills are there within if this is what you have been waiting on. You may feel a little rusty at first but after you do everything the first time with your baby it will be smooth sailing from there on out. Be sure to try and go back to sleep so that you have the energy you need for giving birth because you surely will sleep afterwards. Remember you got this!!

Just try breath and relax. Itll be over before u know it. And remember been a mam is practically built in... if u scared and confused or dont no what to do, talk to ur midwife or someone u feel comfortable with. Dont bottle it up its totally normal to cry. If u can have a nice hot shower
