Bonding

Hi I'm wondering for all you mom's who have miscarried. I am 8 weeks pregnant now and miscarried earlier this year and am having a hard time bonding to this pregnancy like I did the last. Any ideas to help with this? Thanks in advance.

I think that's normal for many women.  It's a conscious effort I think to not "get attatched" to the little one in case something happens. For many, once your baby starts to look "more human" later in pregnancy,  that can make it better. Or for some reaching past the point in pregnancy that you lost the last baby can give you some relief. Just try to remember this baby isn't that baby and that it's unlikely that the same will happen again.  Even if something happened would your baby exist any less? Of course not! Best of luck to you mama! Btw. I miscarried at about 6 weeks a few weeks back so I know the feeling.

I'm 31 weeks this Saturday and I didn't feel that attachment and happiness until I found out the gender of my baby. Now I'm super excited and happy about her.

I had a very hard time bonding with my rainbow baby. I couldn't get my hopes up and didn't want to care. I went to counseling but it didn't help. I didn't get excited or feel very attached to her until my 20 week ultrasound.  When we found out that she was perfect and started calling her by her name. I still mourn the loss of my first pregnancy but as soon as Hanna was born a big piece of my heart was healed. The anniversary of my miscarriage is still very hard even though it has been 4 years. Good luck honey.

Sometimes we don't bond until we see our baby. Some even weeks after the baby is born. It's entirely normal to feel that way. All my pregnancies have been different. I have been happy about being pregnant and with another pregnancy I felt devastated and stressed over it the entire time. I love all my kids the same though. You always wonder how you'll love the next one as much but yet you do. It's also normal to be hesitant about getting too close after a loss. I have lost two and its hard. I think we do that to try and protect ourselves.
