Breast feeding

I know it is very common to have breastfeeding troubles. I am on baby #4. I have tried breastfeeding with all three of my children and it never really worked out. Idk if I just gave up too soon or what. I guess my question is, how long does it really take for breast milk to start fully coming in?

Ya i have seen a lot of stuff about women breastfeeding for years. I don't want to do that but if I am successfully able to feed this baby and gain a milk supply, with pumping and breastfeeding, I don't want to feed the baby the pumped milk from a bottle because that can lower my supply, so I thought, why waste it if I would be helping my other children with it?

Sorry for typos lol. For nutritional sake older kids don't need it but it doesn't mean it's not benefiting them. I have also read studies where kids brain functions on have a year plus of breastfeeding increase.  Some mom's breastfeed for 3 years for a reason. ..

Yes!!! It does!!! I still give my 2 year old breast milk when she starts getting sick. She doesn't care for the raste anymore  (she is 2) but I put it in smoothies. You can freeze your mill in a deep freeze for a year. Breastmilk has antibodies in it to help your child fight off bugs.

Ok I see. I didn't know if it would be very beneficial to them, I thought that with my middle child having gotten more breat milk and he like hardly ever gets sick, I thought maybe it would boost the other two immune system. I have heard that oatmeal really help with milk supply also. Is that true?

I'm a ftm and had my girl 2 almost 3 weeks ago. I'm exclusively breastfeeding (my daughter refuses to have formula), and I'm actually doing really good with it. Honestly, it HURTS at first, your nipples are not used to being sucked on and messed with so much, so they get chapped, bleed and crack much like your lips during the winter time. Using lanolin products helps so much with this, keep applying it constantly at first will help with the success, apply after probably each feeding. Your supply comes in after 2-5 days, mine started to come in the 2nd day and was fully in by the 4th day. You just have to make sure to feed them each time they want to eat, don't try to really give formula either because that will dwindled your supply since your body doesn't recognize you needing that supply to come in. You can give your other children pumped milk, however it isn't needed in their diet. Your milk is basically like skim milk to whole milk. The skim portion when it first comes out during the feeding quenches the babies thirst like when we are thirsty on a hot day. The last portion is like whole milk, full of fats and all the major nutrition baby needs, that is what helps soothe their hunger. So your older children don't benefit from breast milk. They only recommend breastfeeding up to 1 year Olds because after that, they get the nutrients from the foods they eat.

I think I'm in good hands now with having a good pump also. Plus with this being baby #4 I have some knowledge about what I have done Wong in the past and I am able to correct it now. It's weird though, I can tell which child breast fed the longest, Wyatt, breastfed tor two weeks versus his brothers that only went for about a week and he like hardly ever gets colds. Which is what I would like to prevent in my 4th baby. If I got my supply up and pumped and pumped out a lot, would it be odd to give my other children breast milk? I mean like cold refridgerated? It could still be beneficial to them and their health couldn't it? I would like try to go back to breastfeeding them tho lol. Just like add it to their diet from after pumping. They are 4,3, and 2. Kadence, Wyatt, and Gunner.

Gotcha. There is a great breastfeeding group on here. Helped me with my first. I made it 14 1/2 months....the trick is to stay hydeated. You can also take fenugreek,  drink nasty tea, or make yummy lactation cookies to help keep your supply up. I think you are ok as long as you let baby cluster feed if that's what they want until your milk comes in. That's the best way.

Oh and with my 3rd child, we lived with my brother in law so breastfeeding did not work out then because of my environment.

Yes with my 1st child. See, with my 1st, I stopped breastfeeding because it didn't seem like he was getting enough and at the time I had no idea what I was doing an his latch wasn't so good either. He was the sleepy eater type. With my second, I stopped at 2 wks. The day I stopped, my breasts became engourged and were so tender and hurt so bad, but again, I never experienced that and didn't know what I was doing, now knowing that I should have pumped and kept breastfeeding, I think I have the knowledge needed but I'm just nervous about this one because it seems like it had always went wrong so its as if its going to again. I now have a good pump tho so I think that should help. I just don't know if there are things that I should do to get my milk to come in faster, my supply never got up to par until about the two week mark. :(

Up to 3 or 4 days. Have you tried working with a lactation consultant?
