Diabetes.

So I read today that diabetes can cause birth defects. Any moms have diabetes before getting pregnant?  Any advice not to be nervous.

I knew a girl with type 1 that did not keep her sugar in check, she has lost 2 babies not pregnancies babies and gets sick alot while pregnant. I think it is because she was not taking care of herself though. Watch your sugar and eat healthy and everything will be fine.

I'm a type 1 diabetic and I have been for 12 years.  I'm 27 years old with my first pregnancy and I'm 26 weeks. My blood sugar has not been the best the entire time but everything with my daughter has been perfect so far. I feel super blessed.

I have a friend who is a type 1 diabetic and had 2 boys that are healthy. Both came earlier then full term, but that is normal for diabetes.

My sister in law is diabetic and just had her baby in January. Other than her son being 10lbs 9oz my sister and her child were perfectly healthy and doing very well (:

There is a higher chance of birth defects with uncontrolled diabetes but if you keep your blood sugar as close to normal as possible you should be fine. You should have an endocrinologist helping you get through this or and/or a perinatologist.
