Most tears are first to second degree which is part of why they don't do episiotomies anymore. Those tend to lead to third and fourth degree tears and can damage more area than a year would. I had a first degree tear and it only hurt when I went to the bathroom. Little sting more than anything. Otherwise the tear is better.

I was cut with my first but only because the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck twice & had to get her out of there...I didn't even know they cut me! Didn't feel a thing until he was stitching me up (now that hurt!)

If you tear or need to be cut they give you dissolvable stitches takes a few weeks to fully heal I found using witch hazel oil in the bath 2-3 times a day also helped with the healing

Don't  unless you need to be I had to with my first because he was taking awhile to come so needed to be cut and have forceps to help him out. Just depends like some don't need to be cut but you could tear slightly and require stitches.

They give you a squirt bottle. You fill it with warm water and when you gotta pee just squirt down there and it helps. Tucks pads also help and so do sits baths. It is only uncomfortable for a few days.

I tore a little with my second baby and the healing wasn't near as painful as my episiotomy with my first. You can request not to be cut.

How long did it take for the stitches to heal? And does it hurt and burn when you urinate?

You don't usually feel it because the human body can't feel multiple kinds of pain at the same time.  So the pain from actually giving birth over shadows the pain of the tear.  For me the stitches hurt more than the tear.

I tore naturally,  and actually didn't feel any thing when it happened, I was too busy feeling the contractions and pushing. I had an all natural birth, no pain meds. I ended up getting 3 or 4 stiches.

No they don't always cut. I'm in the UK and they don't really do it at all any more. It used to be done routinely however they realised they were doing more harm than good because it was often done when there was no need. Now they tend to let you tear but keep an eye on things and get you stitched up in no time. I had a severe second degree tear with my first and in all honesty once my son arrived safely, I didn't give it a second thought :)

Yes it is true, but not every woman gets cut. Look up episiotomy. That's the medical term for cutting part of the vagina to aid in delivery of your baby. If you don't want one then tell your doctor that you don't want one.

I was told the same so I asked my doctor about it. He said it's rare they cut anyone now days. He said they only will cut you if you're so tired you can't push or the baby's heart rate drops dramatically and the baby needs to get out quick. He said he can't remember the last time he had to do one. He always told me to be prepared to tear with your first baby.
