Does a "sweep" really work?

im getting a sweep on Monday to try and bring on labour naturally as im 40 weeks on Thursday, I'm booked in for an induction on Thursday due to reduced movement but I want to avoid being induced. How often does a sweep work? Did it work for you?!

Just like everything else, it depends on your body. It works when your body is ready.

I had a sweep done with my son at 39 weeks and it didn't work then they did another at 40 and that one worked I went in labor 3 hours later they say with your first baby usually the first sweep won't put you in labor but its different for everyone I was 1 cm dilated for the first one and when I went back a week later I was almost 3 for the second

A sweep is where the doctor goes in and grabs the amniotic sac and moves it away from the cervical wall it stirs up prostagladins (think that's how its said) which are suppose to jump start labor and make the cervix begin to dilate

They don't grab the amniotic sack. They separate the sack from the uterine wall.

Does it hurt how do they perform that

They do it manually.I'm going to get one on Tuesday. It will probably be uncomfortable
