I got two no cost doulas at the end of my pregnancy my midwives recommended them to us and it was the best thing we did next to getting midwives. We knew them for about a week before the baby arrived and even with not knowing them to the extent that people get to know them if they've had them the whole pregnancy it was the best thing. I'm a ftm so when I went into labor I fully believe if they weren't with my fiance and I the pain would have been so much worse as I wouldn't have know how to relax or breathe through the contractions they were with us for 26 hours and I recommend them to everyone as well.
Doulas normally do not tend your appointments they are there for you to ask questions in case your afraid to ask your doctor. They assist when your in labor, trained in pain management/coping skills. They are also an advocate if you want a natural birth they will stand up to the doctor and tell them what is what. Since doctors will tend to do things their way when you are in your most vulnerable position. They are there to support you. And they could cost anywhere between 400-500 dollars
The person has special training. Almost like a midwife
If it's just a person joining you to all those things then why is there a cost?
It's someone who goes with you to every appointment,to labor and delivery with you, who will be in the room to help you through delivery, help you through the pregnancy in any way, and also be there with you after you have your baby helping you in any way she/he can! Like a best friend except someone who went to school to be you pregnancy and after pregnancy bestfriend!
Sorry I don't know what it is..
I'm only replying because I don't think some of us don't know what it is and that's why we don't answer..
