I actually had this same question but I asked my doctor. My lmp was January 20th (around that time) but I still bled for a day but very very light so I didn't think anything of it until I realize it had only happened for a day. When I went in for an appointment I was 8 weeks but it didn't add up because I still had my period (somewhat) & would have gotten pregnant before then. Sperm can actually be active even after sex. So I had actually conceived literally right before my period.
They usually start keeping track of how far along you are right from your lmp date. & your baby measuring at 8 weeks is because babies grow at different rates your baby just happened to be as developed as an 8 week old fetus & so they went off your babies measurements as well as your lmp.
2 weeks is added to the ovulation date. This is because v few people know the date they conceived. So the first day of pregnancy is the first day of the last period.
There are two concepts in pregnancy you need to know:
1. Gestational age, that's the 8 weeks that have passed since the first day of your menstrual bleeding.
2. Fetal age, that's the actual age of the fetus for a standard 28-day long period. In which ovulation takes place on day 14.
I hope this explains things to you.
I'm still confused. So I was 8 weeks then, by my lmp, and the baby measured 8 weeks also.
So I'm okay? The baby wasn't conceived weeks before? I'm right on time with everything?
Your baby could also be bigger than normal. Went I went for my ultrasound I didn't know my lmp so they measured it at 10 weeks and went with my edd as Feb. 4.
You aren't actually pregnant the first couple weeks. Conception is at about 3 weeks. They are literally counting the time since you lmp.
I just don't think it was implantation bleeding, it was heavy bleeding.
It depends on when you actually ovulated you could have ovulated early and also the bleedingcould have been implantation bleed. I never had an implantation bleed nor did I realise I had missed a period. I found out at 5 weeks I was pregnant because I was so sick and couldn't function.
