Gastric bypass

Has anyone ever had it? I'm seriously contemplating it as soon as I can after baby. This is my
5th and with my second I gained 100 lb and haven't lost any. I'm having issues due to being overweight and it's taking a tole on my depression. Any support would help!

I can tell you it doesn't have to be done.  I used to weigh 326 pounds. When I was pregnant with my 2nd I weighed that much!  I lost 150 pounds over the course of a year.  I kept it off and had my third child without gaining anything excessive back.  I am now having my 4th baby in 89 days!  I have gained some back due to sciatica a year or so ago, but can tell you I'm not scared that I won't lose it again.  You can do it, NOTHING is impossible.

As someone that was once a size 22, 5'2", and weighed 244 lbs....I understand how difficult it is for you to struggle with weight problems. I too considered GB but after doing my research, speaking to people that have gotten it and it didn't "work" I decided that GB's risks were far too great than the benefits. You have to consider that you run the risk of death and perpetual health problems. Think of what will happen to your kids if mom is no longer around.

I burned off about 50 lbs in the course of 2 years or so and have for the most part kept it off, even at 17 wks pregnant. I started off slow... Did a colon cleanse and reevaluated my diet increasing my intake of fruits and veggies through juicing (eating veggies was not something I could stomach initially). I figured it took me years to get at size 22 and it was going to take me years to get to a doable size (I focus on my size, not my weight). I started exercising slowly because my joints couldn't take something too strenuous. With time, that improved drastically.

Why am I sharing this? Because I too thought the surgery was the ONLY option, but it's not. You are so much more stronger than you believe you are. Every body is different and reacts to different foods differently. Perhaps you haven't found the right "balance" of food for you. Explore! My friend kept gaining weight on a vegetarian diet and switched to a paleo diet. She looks healthier 'n ever and has lost weight! Don't give up.

Good luck!

From what I understand a lap and has more risks plus it's not covered by my insurance. I've done testing & it's all normal. The only reason I had the weight gain was due to my second pregnancy. I was around 170 before and after my first. Couldn't loose or gain weight for the life of me. Then I got pregnant and the weight came on real fast and hasn't gone anywhere since

Have you tried a high fat low carb diet? Where you cut most sugar and grains but still eat plenty of good fats and oils, cheeses, yoghurt, avocado, eggs, with meat, fruit, veg etc... (pretty similar to Paleo diet). So many people around me have had success on this sort of diet when nothing helped before...although it's a lifestyle change, they keep it up forever -it's not a fad diet.

I don't know if it's an option to see a naturopath specialising in hormones as well, these issues are often due to a hormone imbalance or even certain vitamin deficiencies and you won't lose the weight until the underlying problem is fixed too... If you could commit to a few months testing and treatment timewise and moneywise I'd certainly take that route first...

A bypass is pretty big and so much worse for your health in other ways, would a lap band be an option? My friend was obese and got one, now she is chubby, but has remained really stable for years so it definitely helped her... Sorry, this might all be useless to you, but a bypass is just so drastic!

Theres no cost where I live. As for exercise and diet I've done it. It hasn't worked. I eat nothing but healthy stuff and was working out a ton before I got pregnant again.

Before they do a surgery like gastric bypass you have to loose a certain amount of weight before they will work on you. My mom had it done about 5 years ago and she was on a strict diet plan..its expensive and I believe with diet and exercise you can achieve the same results..people think its the easy way out but if it were me I would start with walking everyday and cleaning up my diet and loose weight that way and use surgery to fix the excess skin because with gastric you'll have the extra skin and need another surgery for that as well.

I'm sure it wouldn't be any worse then what I'm experiencing atm - and in the past. I was told today by a dr I need to loose the weight because it's having I'mpCt on my health. I can barely get out of bed some days. I have been thinking about it for a while now. Just don't have a dr that's willing to support me. I have kids I need to look after. I can't be worrying about how I'm going to get out of my bed on a daily basis

Before I gained the pregnancy weight Woth my second I couldn't gain or lose. As far as I know the lap band isn't covered by ohip but bypass is. I don't know the process & I only see a nurse practitioner so they aren't supportive or  much help. Idk what to do.

I didn't have the bypass but i did have the Lapband. With anything there are positives and negatives. Regardless of what people say, it is NOT the easy way out. Its still hard work and there's a chance that you will not keep the eight off. Best of luck, please do your research!
