HI all I'm 31 weeks pregnant and wondering if a black tarry stool is normal ?

Hi there as mentioned I'm 31 weeks pregnant and ive noticed my stools past couple of days have been  black and tarry . This is my 4 th  child and I don't recall having black tarry stools before and a white discharge I know it's usual during pregnancy but past week I've noticed when I've gone to clean myself it's not just  little there it smothers the tissue  is this usual ?

Not a problem! It doesn't sound pregnancy related to me, but the acid reflux and heartburn sounds normal, I'm getting it too :( just hoping all is okay for you. Let us know how it goes tomorrow x

Yes,the on tablets could cause this but since you aren't on them, definitely get a stool sample in to your GP. Black (not just dark), sticky, tarry stools can indicate bleeding somewhere along the digestive tract. The colour and consistency means the blood would have been in contact with stomach acid which most likely suggests the bleeding is in the stomach or higher, as opposed to bright red blood which would indicate bleeding in the lower digestive tract. Both should always be checked if you spot them, and also look out for entire bowel movements being red or maroon in colour, or spots/streaks of blood that appear to be inside the bowel motion. Again, these should be checked asap. Hope this helps!
