I did a home birth with my son. It was a wonderful experience for my husband and I. We had a wonderful midwife who was very knowledgeable. I was able to be in the comfort of my home, be in any position I wanted and was able to eat and drink to keep my energy up. I am currently 5 months pregnant with my second and doing the same thing this round as well and am so excited. I was a little nervous at first but the  meeting with my midwife and my amazing support system, it was a wonderful birth that was long but had a health baby and a experience I can say was my my own and not what the doctors wanted. Plus it is much cheaper!

Woow Hospital birth here in public system is 100% free and then Private (insurance covered) is maybe $5000 out of pocket.

I like the security of a hospital, however if it was my 2nd or 3rd I'd be more comfortable at home. Plus less stress usually leads to faster labors.

Holy poop that's expensive. Sorry, no advice from me but I plan on having one next baby but too late for this one because I'm a planner and I can't throw everything out the window less than 5 weeks away from due date lol. I think it's a great idea. As for your bill, it depends on where you are located that can influence hospital prices. The room alone costs enough. I know if you asked or they gave you tylenol after birth , it costs about $20 per pill, they say the diapers and wipes are free, but it all adds up on the bill and not at the normal store rates, more like triple that. Just little things add up to big bucks even in a quick in and out, non medicated birth. It's pretty ridiculous.
