If you live close to the hospital and can labor at home longer that stuff is less important too. I had a natural birth with my first and used the ball, shower, etc at home and was in transition by the time I got to the hospital so even though I brought the ball and a suitcase full of other stuff there was no time to use it! I think we will pack much lighter this time.
I labored in the whirlpool tub the first time and wouldn't choose a hospital without one. The care they provide makes the biggest impact though. My L & D nurse was fabulous. My doc was respectful of my wishes and didn't try to manage my labor to her liking. That's important to me.
I had the epidural so I just napped and watched TV the whole time and didn't feel a thing so for me all that wasn't necessary at all, all I needed was a bed, but if you're going natural then yea, I can see how all that would help. Like I said before though, it's all about personal preference.
Honestly I have had 7 children ( one was a set of twins) I have never been able to use a tub or yoga ball. I would worry more about what doctor you like and how the nurses are. Worry about noise control. Pretty is nice but comfort is better.
They told me I had a radio and my mil found my favorite Christian station and it played non stop! It was perfect and it made me so relaxed.
Sure thing. Technically we could all have our babies in the back seat of cars or in the bathroom floor if we had to, and just gnaw the cord apart like animals... Lol. Baby is going to come out one way or another. But as long as there is some ability to make it more comfortable and easier for myself and my baby... I'm all for trying to do that as much as possible. :) Everyone has a different level of comfort.
Thank you for your detailed response!! Gave me things to think about. Thank you
Stress, anxiety, unease all cause tension which locks up your body, aggravates horomones and slows labour. Relaxation calms your body and helps the flow of hormones which encourages your body to do what it needs to push baby out. That goes back a lot to atmosphere affecting mental state.
Ugh *and comfort are so important in making the*
For me its a very big deal, because atmosphere and comfort at so important in making in making the delivery process easier. Being able to control and cope with the pain is mainly mental. Feeling safe and secure and relaxed helps. Having a yoga ball is my crutch because repetitive motion is one of the way a I deal with pain (rolling, rocking, bouncing.) Having the bath or at least hot shower I hear over and over again really eases the pain of contractions and back pain and everyone I know recommends it. Personally I don't need a guest area but there is a fold out bed for hubby so he doesn't have to sleep in a chair. The spaciousness also helps with being able to move and pace and get into different positions. Just depends on your preferences. You aren't going to need as much if you have an epidural.
That's a matter of person preference, I do.t see why any of.that is necessary though.
