I just found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant and had been recreationally taking methadone

I'm really concerned about my baby because of me taking about 20 mg of methadone off and on for the past two weeks . I'm in no way addicted to it at all so I stopped playing around taking it as soon as I found out I was pregnant and have not had any withdraw as I'd expect since I only took it twice a week then the next week 3 times and stopped from there but I'm concerned it could of hurt the baby :(. I know many mother's are prescribed it there entire pregnancy but it's still scary. I'm just glad I'm not addicted to it and could stop. Thank you !

When i found out i was pregnant i was prescribed Prozac, Adderall and Busiprone I to stopped early on and they sent me to a specialist juat because of the medications. Then i was told since i stopped it was out of my system and my babies system and not to worry unless i decided to start taking them again. You werent taking them everyday so im sure your baby will be fine. I also worry about any damage that was already done, but why worry about yesterday, it just takes away the joys of today. Do the best you can to take care of ypurself and your unborn baby and all will be okay. You all are in my thoughts ands prayers.

Your doctor will not judge you, coming from someone who is a healthcare provider. It's important your doctor knows for further testing and maybe giving you something to neutralize your system? Put your confidence in your doctor. I hope this helps.

I was prescribed to methadone with my youngest daughter. She is now a very healthy, happy, and smart 2 year old. I took about 40mg a day the entire pregnancy and she didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms. However, I miscarried a couple of months before I got pregnant with her due to stopping my methadone. I was seeing an oncologist who prescribes the methadone and he had never had a pregnant patient before and wouldn't give me  refill And the ob couldn't get me in soon enough. But the difference is you werent taking very many and not very often. I would definitely talk to you Dr asap about it just BC there is risks with methadone. Just don't be embarrassed or ashamed. Speak with the dr and tell him when and how many you were taking just in case there are any complications. Keep your head up and remember its for the baby!!

You should talk to your doctor, however I don't believe the umbilical cord was developed yet, so I don't think you baby got any of the methadone
