I'm in serious need of help!

So I'm breastfeeding, my son is only 5 days old and my right nipple has a scab on the top part of it and i haven't let him feed on it for two days, i tried to let him this morning but it hurts so dang bad, question is how can i prevent this from happening again? He latched on really well so there's no problem with that, or is that the problem that he didn't that's why my nipple is cut?

I'm a registered nurse I do know what I'm talking about and have actaully been taught the same thing by a verified lactation consultant (and not one of those fake LA leche people either)

I also suggest you look it up. I didn't realize it was a miracle me and my breastfeeding friends milk didn't dry up. I must also tell the midwifes they are wrong not like they know what their doing ay. Ive noticed that obviously different countries have different do's and don'ts so before you dismiss people's comments make sure your 100% correct

Lanolin is no longer recommended for healing nipple.

There is an enzyme in green cabbage that will dry up your milk. We were taught in nursing school that women who aren't breast feeding should use cabbage for that reason, it will help dry everything up quicker. Look it up.

Do not use cabbage on your breasts!!! Cabbage is used to dry up your milk, not to heal cracked or sore breasts

I had that hun.. Its the nipple toughening up.. If u really can't let him feed on it try expressing otherwise u will get blocked up which can causeva temperature and all sorts.. Best thing to do is use the lanisoh and grit through it xx

He may not be latching as well as you think or his latch may be wrong. I'd speak to a lactation consultant. Also, coconut oil on your nipple is great to help heal them. When you finish nursing, rub a bit of your milk on them, let them air dry and then rub some coconut oil on them.

Coco oil or cream before and after bed time or after you feed.

I found leaving a tiny vit of milk on your nipple when he's done will keep from getting dry and chapped

It could be from getting too dry. Try vitamin e oil at the end of the nursing session. My mother had the same problem when she was breastfeeding my little brother. And its a tip she gave me since I plan on breastfeeding my son.
