Do your own research - low amniotic fluid does not automatically mean you have to have a c-section. It sounds like that's your doctor's preference for treating low amniotic fluid. If he didn't give you other options or explain his reasons, he's not giving you proper care. You deserve informed consent: that means he tells you all of your options, he tells you the risks and benefits to each, he tells you which option he recommends and why (with the risks and benefits of it again), then ASKS you what you'd like to do. You might decide that a c-section is your safest option, but the key phrase there is that YOU decide. Education is empowering. Even if you do decide to go forward with the c-section, you'll feel much better about it if you know you've learned all of the other options and chosen what you believe to be the safest route. Good luck!

Also, oral or IV fluids HAVE been shown to help increase amniotic fluid levels. I'd recommend things like coconut water in addition to straight water, because it's an electrolyte solution and will help your body hydrate better.

I had the same issue during my first pregnancy, but I was fortunate enough to have my labor induced at 37 weeks. My doctor had me under close watch until then. I was told to drink a lot of water but it didn't really help with the fluid levels. Don't be scared and ask your doctor or nurse all the questions you need to. Wishing you the best of luck with your pregnancy.

I had that happen to me I was 35 weeks she scheduled me for c section I drunk one bottle of water after the other and repeated this daily I swear I peed a thousand times a day but my amniotic fluid was more than enough for me to have my daughter natural luckily for me I asked her to recheck my fluids and she did. I did not want a c section and I agree you dr should tell you other options

I was a little low of my amniotic fluids at one pint with my first and was told to increase my fluid intake (double it) after a week of doing that my fluid was at normal levels. And stayed that way. Not saying it will always happen but it can.

And the above ladies are so right! Your dr needs to explain Why and give other options than c-section. And there Are other options.

It's not always medically nessisary for you or baby just the preferred method cause it's easier these days cause it requires no trouble shooting.
