Maternal Smoking??

Please no harsh comments, in need of some opinions. I have smoked for a long time and becoming pregnant its very difficult to stop completely.I have greatly reduced my intake since I got pregnant  ( from a half to a pack a day to 2-5 ) but I have my ultrasound tomorrow for 20 weeks pregnant and I haven't had any warning signs like intense pain or bleeding, just very tired and still get nauseous sometimes. I was just wondering if I should be worried that something could be wrong still. Help calm my nerves??

I've had 3 healthy babies an I did smoke with each pregnancy. I did try to quit with each. I cut down a whole lot with each. I'd say ur doing great  this is my 4th an I'm trying really hard to quit my dr said to do it in steps. It can be to stressful to quit cold turkey. I'm down  to about the same as u 2 to 5 a day an he says that's great. Just take ur time an remind urself every day y u r quiting. An try an stay positive. Before I got put on bed rest I found that walking helped me alot. You r doing great just keep  going an u will be able go quit before u know it.

Quitting smoking is different for everyone.. it literally made me nauseous, so it was easy to quit. But I did do it in steps, smoked less each day until I was completely done. They say never quit cold turkey, because it can cause stress to you and your baby. But good job going down to 2-5 a day! Take it a day at a time. Try chewing gum, or get a bag of lollipops... talk to your doctor about other options and tricks to quitting.. but good luck!

I smoked with all my baby's and if you don't live the life of the person don't be so quick to jump on them. All my baby's are healthy and nothing wrong with them. In fact it is more harm to quit cold then to stop. I think about my kids everyday and it dose not make me a bad parent. I just wanted to say I'm pregnant I'm 36 weeks and my baby girl is very healthy strong heart and very good lungs. Good for you all who can stop cold that is on you. Just don't cut others down for what they do.

Does smoking help calm you down when you're nervous or stressed? Why not try a bit of yoga/Pilate's and learn some ways to calm down naturally. Then when you feel the urge to smoke you can focus on some calming techniques and hopefully resist the urge to light up. Well done one reducing! Keep trying x

Yay for slowing! I've never smoked but my mother smoked with me and I'm fine. The worst I have to deal with is asthma, and that's from her still smoking after I was born. Second hand smoke did more damage to me personally than her smoking in pregnancy. Keep up the good work, you got this!

Good for you for cutting down. My mom and mil smoked with me and my hubby because doctor said it was too dangerous to take it away from a chronic smoker. That it could honestly do more harm than good. Just talk more with your doctor and if they tell you to cut cold turkey, I would honestly get a second opinion. Since your body is soo dependent on the nicotine it could possibly put you into shock, withdrawal, symptoms, etc which can be harmful for baby. If you're taking it slow and weaning your body then good for you. You are doing what you can, don't let anyone get you down.

Good job! It's so hard to quit anytime of your life, but just remember to continue decreasing your daily amount because even after birth cigarettes can be harmful to baby. Good luck! You and your baby should be relatively ok, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. You've done a great thing so far! Don't let anyone make you feel bad. Everyone's journey and struggles are different.

And as soon as I found out I quite that day!!! I don't want to be hard but come on. I'm 13 week 5 days and I've found out I was pregnant when I was 6 weeks haven't smoked since that day!!! Don't be thinking about your self think about that little baby and how the smoke affect it... You can do it I'm telling you if I can you can. Good luck on your little bundle of joy :) congregation
