I also read that metformin reduces the risk of miscarriage, but my dr considered to take me off of it. I've been taking it for about 2 years before that. I am tomorrow week 38 and the baby is healthy, so it probably depends on everybody's special case whether to keep taking it throughout the pregnancy or not. I have been more closely monitored by my dr from the beginning of the pregnancy. It's best to let the dr decide.

I took it for pcos while pregnant but stopped after I was past the miscarry stage. My midwife told me that stopping it prior could actually cause a miscarriage...definitely check with your doc.

I thought that metformin was prescribed to woman with pcos because it reduced the risk of miscarriage.

I had to stop taking metformin completely as soon as I got my pregnancy confirmed. I was taking it for PCOS and insulin resistance. My dr said I'll probably start taking it after delivery and after I finished breastfeeding.
