I a had tooth pulled at 22 weeks and I cried because of the pain. I didn't want to take meds to harm or slow down my baby heart beat. It was frustrating but I didn't have a choice. Just know you may get frustrated..

I had a root canal at 30 weeks. Was required to go to an endodontic practice, but they were able to take the extra precautions to keep baby and me safe. I ended up getting a permanent filling rather than a temp, so I could wait to get my crown till after baby.

Yes it is safe Sandy. I have been a dental professional for more than 7 yrs now and while it's always recommended for pregnant patients to have routine hygiene done dealing with actual dental treatment gets tricky. The dentist will give you a medical clearance to have signed by your primary or OBGYN before any major treatment. Also, for extra precaution they will place an additional lead shield on your abdomen to provide extra protection during xrays.
