I would only start with a couple packs of newborn. You can always go get more but they have the belly button cut out and my hospital had new born diapers.

I had 2 babies, one 8.7lbs and one 8.9, both were in newborn for a little while.  My hospital used newborn as well

Dont waste money on new born diapers the hospital doesnt even use them they use size 1. You also need to fold in the top part of diaper bc of the cord. So only buy size 1 and i'd buy 2 or 3 large boxes of 100 each box to start and go from there babies grow fast so i'd say by the time you finish the 3rd box your baby should be going into size 2. I just had my 2nd baby 3 weeks ago trust me.
