New job

I'm starting a new job next Monday. I'm 18 weeks pregnant, and haven't told them. Any advice? I don't think FMLA applies to me since I'm new there, and don't want to lose my current insurance and not be covered for my c-section.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I'd like to make this my career after I have my baby. I know they can't discriminate, but they also don't have to approve time off for me while I have the baby. I checked the law and it said they'd have to give me 12 weeks unpaid leave if I were there for 12 months. I'm just worried is all...because like I said, I'd lose my current insurance and then not be covered if they let me go. I was going to tell them the first week, but maybe I'll reconsider after your advice. Thanks again!

I don't know what the rule is in the us, but in the UK, you definitely have to inform your employee by a certain point, you can't just wait till they ask you.  If you want to remain on good terms with your employer i would try to be as helpful as possible.  Look at it from their point of view: realistically how long will it take them to arrange maternity cover for you? They aren't going to be happy that you'll be going on leave so soon after starting so do what you can to make it easier if you hope to go back.

They cannot discriminate again pregnant women. It's against the law. Wait until they ask. Make sure this is what you wanna do. I was almost 27 weeks when I got a job with my second. They never said a word. Just go in and prove you're worth keeping until you're ready to have baby. Do you wanna go back after you have your LO? If so express that to them. Good luck dear.
