Refusing Being Monitored?

Hi there. I am 41 weeks and in the hospital now. I have a Foley bulb in to do some magic to my cervix. It's all going well except continuous monitoring which I find completely unnecessary at this point. I'm on no medicine and baby is looking great. Not in active labor yet. Plus, its 3:30 in the morning and I would like to get some damn sleep in between these irregular contractions. Can I refuse the fetal and contraction monitors for the time being? Especially since not much is going on?

I actually found the fetal monitor sound comforting...knowing my baby was safe and getting ready to meet us. Actually KNOWING that he was doing OK helped me as a ftm with the anxiety of labour. Plus why would you question something that could only be good for your baby just so that you can sleep?

You can refuse anything you want, but i wouldn't recommend it. Those monitors are to keep track of babies heart beat, the heart beat will tell if the baby is in distress or not. So i just say suck it up, ask them to turn the volume down and dim the lights for you.

If u are being induced you definitely need to be monitored!I if I wouldn't have been monitored w my son I woulda lost him his movements slowed way down and they had to stop everything for a few hrs and start over again ! Wow why don't you.slap that girl.in the face. She clearly stated she lost her baby due to not being monitored . So to say it's not important to be monitored closely would vary from person to person. Hoping that their baby is OK.  I myself will insist on being monitored fully as.I'm going vbac and may have a foley

It actually isn't important to be monitored constantly. There are many hospitals and clinics changing their policies so that mom and baby only need to be monitored for 10-20 min per hour. You can ask if they can decrease monitoring but it really depends on their policy.

Hi please don't,  the monitoring is very important. I went in hospital at 38 weeks and was ready to have my baby they were short staffed and didn't monitor me and hours before having my precious little I lost him due to the negligence of the staff. I know you must be exhausted but yoyr baby getting here safely is so much more important. I don't mean to scare you but I am sure you can understand where I am coming from. I wish you all the best and pray your little one arrives soon x
