Smoking Weed during pregnancy

This isn't for me but it's for my niece. My niece is pregnant and she doesn't plan on stop smoking weed during her pregnancy which kind of irritates me because she already ***** as a mother already. She already has a 3 year old who she doesn't take care of at all. My sister takes care of him. When she had him she stayed with him for a week then left. She doesn't want him at all the only thing is cares about is getting food stamps for him so she can sell them. She also smoked weed with him and he's not developing as he should. He's 3 and isn't talking at all he tries to he knows a few words but not as many as he should. Now she's pregnant again and she's keeping it because the man that she's now with wants her to keep it but most likely like she did with her first pregnancy once the daddy decide he don't want to be with her anymore she's going to drop this baby off on someone too. I stay in Chicago and I've heard something about them checking the baby system for weed too and she can get in trouble if the baby is born with weed in his or her system has anyone else heard of this? My mother and i keep telling her that she should stop smoking because it's not good for the baby but she doesn't plan on stop smoking cigarettes or weed

Idc what anyone says. Smoking weed while pregnant is wrong! Why do something when pregnant that could possibly harm your unborn child? Woman who do any type of drug while pregnant are selfish and do not deserve to be a parent. This is MY personal opinion. I don't wanna offend anyone, just sharing my feelings on the subject. You're pregnant for 10 months, if you can't stop smoking weed for just 10 months then that's truly sad.

There are also studies that suggest that the use of marijuana during pregnancy has negative effects on the fetus brain development. There are also some that concluded that it effects the babys behavior later on in life. I've also read cases that states that there hasn't been enough information and studies done on the use of marijuana during pregnancy to conclude whether or not it affects the fetus. Information on the internet is often bias. It takes more than just reading a couple of articles to come up with an unbiased conclusion. There are no disabilities that run in my family. Yes doctors do prescribe marijuana to children who are ill but those children brain tissue have already been formed. Like i said no one knows what people are putting on street marijuana to enhance the high in order to get their product to sell. If i was to ever smoke during pregnancy it would have to be home grown or prescribed medically.

From what i got they're not too sure on the effects that smoking weed have on the fetus during pregnancy because not too many women are willing to disclose that they've smoked weed during their pregnancies. But different studies concluded different things. My brothers babys mother smoked weed during both of her pregnancies and both my niece and nephew have slight speech problem his other babys mother didn't smoke during her pregnancies and both of her kids are developing just fine. All were raised in the same household from birth til about the age of 3 or 4 which is with my parents, my brother, and i. My other brother wife smoked throughout her pregnancy as well and her oldest girl has really bad asthma but she didn't smoke throughout her entire pregnancy with her youngest girl and she's okay just a little bit quiet but being anti-social kind of runs in my family. Idk if any of these things are solely a result of smoking weed during pregnancy but i do think that smoking weed does effect the baby. Especially during early pregnancy when the babys brain is developing. Smoking weed is no better than smoking cigarettes because when smoking both you're inhaling smoke and like my doctor tells me whatever i experience the baby experience. Granted the baby isn't exactly breathing the same air that you're breathing but you're still polluting their air ways. When it comes to my baby and smoking weed i don't trust street drugs because you never know what they're doing to it to give people a greater high. If i was to ever smoke weed during pregnancy it would have to be home grown or medically prescribed. So many people i kmow are literally addicted to smoking weed. They can't eat or sleep without smoking. They'd rather lose a job to a drug test then to stop smoking. If they do stop smoking it for a little while they are irritable. I know that when a baby is born to a mother that's been smoking throughout her entire pregnancy that the baby has to experience some type of without because I've seen heavy adult smokers experience withdrawal and of course it not as bad as people that use more dangerous drugd but it's a mild form of withdrawal.

Studies have reported associations between marijuana smoking and growth restriction and lower birth weight, particularly in women who keep smoking through delivery or late in pregnancy. An Australian study of almost 420,000 live births reported a higher risk for neonatal intensive care admission for newborns exposed prenatally to pot. Also, there are reports of abnormal responses or behaviors in the newborn period and this suggests a toxicity or withdrawal. The symptoms include exaggerated and prolonged startle reflexes (sleep cycle disturbances with high-pitched crying.) In a Brazilian study, exposed newborns were “more irritable and less responsive to calming, cried more during the examination, and exhibited more jitteriness and startles than the non-exposed neonates.” Pregnant women who smoke daily and/or through delivery, have a higher risk for complications in their pregnancy compared to women who quit in the first trimester.

What about long-term effects? A few studies have found that after 3 years of age, children born to marijuana-smoking mothers score slightly differently on cognitive and behavioral tests compared with other babies. A decade-long Canadian study found that at 4 years old, children born to mothers who used marijuana on a daily basis during pregnancy scored lower on memory tests, though there was no impact on overall intelligence scores. At age 10, kids had a slightly increased risk of hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity.

I will say this cigarettes are a lot worse than weed during pregnancies do your research on weed while pregnant and cigarettes while pregnant let us know y'all come up with..I was just at the doctors and this lady had a cigarette in her mouth 8 months pregnant but if it was a joint the police would have been called moms should get arrested for cigarettes just like weed...cigarettes kills adults so what do u think it does to a baby? what does weed do to adults?exactly!!!! Weed yes shouldn't be smoked while pregnant of course...but let's be real it does nothing bad to baby..

The cigarettes she's smoking and the abandonment issues are going to cause way more issues than the marijuana. Not that I'm condoning that either. As mothers we should be willing and ready to sacrifice anything and everything and we should be willing to do whatever it takes, for our children's sake. And if we don't and we won't, then we shouldn't be moms. It's a privilege and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Honestly I think the mother is on something a lot worse then weed! I know tons of people that have smoked weed while pregnant with their child and their child is fine! This mother obviously need to quit whatever drug she is doing and focus on helping her child's development progress! I'm sorry but my mom smoked it with me and I haven't had any issues with my development skills! I've talked with strangers who have smoked weed with their child and their doctor told them not to quit! So sorry to say but this mother is probably hiding a different drug addiction from you!

I don't agree baby's do not developed normal . I know plenty of mothers that have smoked during pregnancy and some of their children are in advanced classes. It depends on how they raise their child. I myself do not smoke but because I am not gaining weight my doctor and OB recommend it for my anxiety and to gain an appetite.

No one can say for sure how marijuana effects fetal or child development because not enough testing has been done on it which is why its recommended to stay away from it, that being said I know a lot of people who have smoked and their babies and children are fine and people who aren't I was previously a smoker but decided I didn't want to chance my baby being exposed to that so I quit when I found out I was pregnant as for drug testing the clinics can't make you take one they can ask but you have the choice of declining and not every hospital test the child's first stool and blood for drugs either catholic, and private hospitals for instance don't believe this is necessary I know a lot of people whom were smokers that pick certain hospitals because they don't county hospitals and general hospitals usually do but it all comes down to where you live and where you deliver unfortunately. So that may be the reason her first son wasn't taken and if she goes to the same place to deliver and their policies haven't changed her second one won't be either

In Alabama they test your urine at every appointment for any drugs and arrest you if you test positive and the charge is chemical endangerment of a child.

Yeah I've noticed. My great nephew still isn't talking and he's 3 years old but she doesn't think that her weed smoking had anything to do with it. I used to smoke before i got pregnant but i stopped once i found out. It's not fair to the baby.

That I'm aware of all hospitals check soon as the baby comes out but I could be wrong because it's a different state. It's absolutely wrong. I know someone who smoked during both of her pregnancies her 9yr old still doesn't know how to read and her 3yr old barely says any words either. Very slow development and people don't get that. I'm not against weed at all, but not while being pregnant or smoking around kids. Careless people.
