Used Things

My fiancé ' s Mom has baby things stored in her attic from 5+ years ago . She keeps offering it to me and I've already taken a baby bed and bassenet that was still in pretty good condition. She is now trying to make me take an old car seat after i told her that i would buy a new one . But I don't want my child to have All used things (Ftm), as I also feel like old things could be potentially dangerous. He's also on her side .

Nothing wrong with giving used stuff instead of buying new stuff.  Be grateful she cares.  The car seat can be dangerous because it might be expired.   Look up the make and model to see.

Had to explain this to a few of my friends ds that were gonna buy used seats and when they checked they were expired also you do not know if the seat has been compromised by being in an accident.

Yes, car seats expire! I've got two that are used, but both babies they came from are just at a year old each. Explain to her that you would love to accept it, but since it does expire, you want to do what's best for baby, look up the expiration for the seat and show her.

I had a used crib for my first and I'm looking to get a used crib with this one. Things like that I think are fine to get secondhand. But a car seat, no. They expire and so much more. Better to spend those couple hundred dollars on a new one, then take any chances with a used one.

Somethings are ok to use again (cots/cribs etc) but you should always get a new mattress for the baby if your going to use a second had cot. As for car seats that can be dangerous, cause if it's been in an accident that you aren't aware of then your baby won't be as safe in that seat. There are plenty of things that can be used again but just make sure your safe on the big things you reuse.

She only wants to give old used things & she gets mad when I buy new things .

It's nice that she's offering but she hasn't even gotten 1 thing for our baby (her first and only gc). & it makes me kinda sad . I'm due in 4 wks

I think some used things are OK (we got a used crib) but car seats have expiration dates. I would say that if it's been stored for 5+ years, the car seat is no good anymore for any child.

I know what u mean I was just telling my mom yesterday how my bf mom and family keeps offering used things and not  that I'm pickey it's just my first child and I want to choose out everything and my mom just said tell them I already bought u whatever it is that they offer u so that's im going to start doing

I don't want to sound picky , I'm just a concerned mom to be . What if there's bugs in the car seat ?
