circumcision? first time mom. HELP!!!!

What do you think of getting your son circumcised? Did your health insurance cover it? And what insurance do you have? What state are you in. I'm in oregon.

My husband is circumcised and we have chosen not to. Research it. Where I live state insurance doesn't cover all of it either from what I have been told. We are choosing not to for many reasons:
1. Surgery so young for a cosmetic reason is not something we are ok with
2. We don't want to risk anything happening to our child
3. I personally can't in good conscience Put my child through something so painful.
Let me be clear I do not judge those who do.  It is each parents right to decide what is best for their child.

Oh man, circumcision. So my son is 9 and when he was born I wanted to get him circumcised. Mostly for health reasons, because if they're not circumcised it's easier for them to get peepee infections and whatnot if they don't pull it back to clean under there. This isn't really an issue when they're young and you give them baths on a regular basis, but when they get to that stage where you can't see them naked anymore... well let's face it, boys are lazy lol so i just didn't want to deal with that. Anyways, I wanted it done, and usually your pediatrician will do it when they come check on the baby before you are checked out of the hospital. Mine came, but refused to circumcise my son. He didn't give an explanation, just said "he doesn't do that" (i think it was because of his religious beliefs)... so I'm like dang, what do i do now? Luckily my OB was willing to do it and he did a fine job, no issues.... until he turned 1 year old.  My (new) pediatrician said I needed to take him for a SECOND circumcision because it had "grown back together". I guess this is common if you don't pull it back when it's healing or something? I'm not sure, it was a really long time ago lol. Anyways I had to take him to a urologist and they knocked him out (which was terrifying for me as a first time mom to know your son is going under the knife) but everything turned out fine. The experience wouldn't change my mind about doing it again though, if this baby is a boy he will be circumcised. I would check with your pediatrician before you deliver to make sure they will do it for you. Oh and I had medicaid at that time because I was a full-time college student with only part-time jobs and no insurance of my own.

Most people including medical practitioners will tell you that it's a personal choice; which it is. Depending on who you ask or refer to, they may say it's either for religious, cosmetic, or health reasons. It is really up to you on what you want for your baby.

I'm pretty sure my health insurance covers it (United Healthcare) by the way, and I live in Illinois.
