What to expect at 12 week ultrasound

So on Monday we have our 12 week ultrasound and I was wondering what to expect.  I have had 2 other ultrasounds so far [one at 5w6d and one at 7w6d] they didn't let me look at the screen for either and I only got a picture the second one and it was just one. Is this normal?  My friend got a whole bunch of her ultrasound pictures?  How long does it take? Will I be able to see the screen  thus time? What should I expect?  Will we get to hear the heartbeat finally?  If I ask can the ultrasound technician guess at the gender of my baby or is that not allowed I don't want to get anyone in trouble?

Thanks in advance sorry if these are stupid questions I'm a ftm. 2 previous miscarriages but never got this far

And also with the pictures some places don't give out a lot of pictures.  So its doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong

At my 12 weeks ultrasound I got the nuchal translucency done.  Its when they measure behind the baby neck for the chances of having down syndrome.  You will see a little body on the screen. Its wonderful and cute how small they are at that time.  And I don't think your tech will have a problem with you listening to the heart beat just ask.  I'm 39 weeks and have learned whatever questions you have during pregnancy DO NOT be afraid to ask . no matter how stupid you think it may be
