Your opinions on baby's with binkys

When my son gets here I was considering giving him a Binky because baby's seem to love them and they are life savers! But I've heard the cause buck teeth, or rotted teeth and its very hard to get them off of it. Any opinions?

I used a binky with my son, it was the only other way to calm him the only ones he'd take were the Avent ones that they have at most hospitals. Surprisingly it wasn't hard to get him off the binky he just started throwing it one day and didn't need it to sleep anymore. I plan on doing binkies when my daughter is born too. I hope this helps its really up to you and how your baby is as far as needing it to calm down or in between bottle etc.

We used one with my son and his teeth are straight and white. They make all kinds of orthodontic (if that's the right word)  ones that won't hurt their teeth. We are slowly weening him off it we try to only give it at night and nap time.

Yes, both these comments were helpful thank you! He more than likely will use a bink, I'm gonna look into the orthodontic ones and I'll just start weening him off a little early just in case he struggles with it

As a childminder iv seen both sides of the argument but id be against them for 1 main reason .... kids who use them tend to wake the minute it falls out of there mouth and they cant self sooth so they rely on it making u get up serveral times a night just to put it back into their mouth and sooth them back to sleep again.

Yes there are plus sides but that is a huge negitive in my eyes

I have 5 brothers and sisters and have never had a problem with them. The Nuk brand are really good, they help form the roof of their mouths. And it only causes their teeth to rot, and or get buck teeth if they are like 3 or 4 on it I believe that's when it can become a problem. I've also never had a problem with my siblings waking up if it falls out of their mouths. But everyone is different

I have 4 children and only my first ever had one. My second sucked her thumb, despite my efforts, thankfully she grew out of it at 3, my third didn't need one and my 4th, we'll,  he's 10 wks old and I've tried to give him one as he can be quite unsettled, but he's really not interested. Moral of the story is, don't stock up on them, your baby might not want one!

My girl doesnt wake up when it falls out.  Thats how you know she is in deep sleep. She doesnt want it anymore.  She sleeps through the night. Plus she only uses it to go to sleep.

My first child had one till he was 2.5. I asked the dentist and he said take it away before he is 3 so it doesn't mess up his teeth. I switched him from the hospital one because his teeth were starting to look pushed out. But I got him one that was for older babies and his teeth were fine. My second baby would not take one no matter what we did. He would spit it out every time. I'm not even going to try with this baby.
