anxiety and pregnancy

This is my first pregnancy. I have suffered from Anxiety my whole life. I feel fine when medicated, but unfortunately I have to go off my anxiety medication (xanax) while pregnant. Has anyone dealt with this?

What's funny is I had just gotten out of a nice warm relaxing shower. I was thinking about how a shower would relax me but I just took one and I feel it did opposite. I stayed in the dark bedroom without the TV or anything on, I also felt like the noise would make me worse. I guess it's just something I will have to ride out, I hope it doesnt happen again, this was my first one during pregnancy

Before my pregnancy I had maybe three attacks, after I became pregnant they became constant and random. I don't know that I personally have found anything to actually break myself from the attacks, other then trying to just shut everything out and focus on something, anything. Any type of sound usually gets me overwhelmed during an attack and becomes very loud even if it's down low, so I try to turn of the tv if it's on, or quiet anything or anyone around me. I try to focus on my breathing/trying to breathe. Taking a shower has helped me at times also, cold or hot. Showers have always kind of made me feel better when I'm upset even just in general.

I'm really happy that I have come across this post I have had anxiety attacks for about the last 6 or 7 yrs. I do not get them regularly and I have not found what triggers them.  Last night my husband and I were laying in bed watching tv same as we do every night, well all of a sudden put of nowhere I could feel my body tensing up and starting to get the anxious feeling. I broke down and started shaking and balling my eyes out like a baby. I could not get a hold of my self and didn't know what happened. My husband Sat with me and dubbed my back and tried to talk to me and calm me down but my body just wouldn't relax. I have never been given a prescription medication for it since it is not a regular occurance. Also I don't like being on medication. My husband started to talk to me about what we were going to do for plans the rest of the week and all sorts of things to change the subject and try to get my mind busy. We decided to put together the stroller for the baby and stuff. I eventually calmed down and was able to fall asleep but even this morning I still feel funny. What are some other things I can do to help keep me calm and not let it fet so out of Control once it starts?

Books are good, if you find a good pregnancy book. Not a typical one. Like I found "The Girlfriends Guide to pregnancy" at goodwill for 50cents. LOVE that book, and it kept me busy. It was funny and truthful.

Scrapbook stuff isn't very much. I really enjoy getting books of scrapbook paper which is like 3-10 at walmart, and covering picture frames, or anything really lol. Regular glue is good to use and a set of cheap paint brushes from walmart is all you need. Once I started scrapbooking, I got more creative.

I have had anxiety before the pregnancy and along with. I was never on medication, tried a few times but medication isn't what I need for my anxiety, someone to talk too has always been what I needed to help me. Medication doesn't help me work through my problems, just helps me ignore it until it is bigger. I used to smoke weed before the pregnancy, that helped tremendously, due to it helping me work through things, being as to talk to my boyfriend, as well as realize what is legit and what isn't. But with the pregnancy I didn't find anything that helped for awhile, but I started scrapbooking. And I've also started doing crafty stuff for my daughters room. I've found that as long as I have something to keep my mind busy and I'm focusing on something, I'm normally pretty good and have a pretty good day -even if just at home.
