are tums bad for you??

The bottle says not to take more than 5 in 24 hours but when I asked my midwife like 6 or 8 weeks ago about heartburn and told her I was only eating one when symptoms came because I didn't want to exceed the amount it said and that I definitely would considering how often I get it - but the symptoms didn't really go away with only taking one so she told me it was okay to take more than the suggested amount because only taking one wasn't going to help me. So I stopped trying to force myself not to take them every time I felt it bubbling up - besides trying to supplement with a glass of milk. I know plenty of times I took even double the recommended amount cuz even taking two at a time - I still got heartburn more than two or three times a day. But now the same midwife prescribed me Zantac today finally when I mentioned how many Tums I've been eating. I'm 37 weeks along now though and now I'm worried I could have O.D.'d the baby on calcium after all that time!! Is that possible?

I love milk, the relief just doesn't last long though. The Zantac works amazingly - I am just scared cuz of how long I was eating that many tums, especially since the same midwife who told me it was okay is the same one who prescribed me Zantac instead today. I have heard plenty of women who have taken tums through the whole pregnancy I'm mainly worried cuz I pretty much always exceeded the recommended dose <:(

I live on Tums lol but I dint take more than 4 a day and I take two at a time. No they don't work that great but I do try and drink milk regularly and it only helps for a couple of minutes. Most of the time I just deal with it :(

I don't know if that's really possible. I don't think your body will give the baby more than it needs. And your body won't use more than it needs. Like my 4 year old downed an entire brand new bottle of vitamins the other day and he didn't even get sick. Milk is usually good for getting rid of heartburn. And if you don't like it you could try silk.
