It cervix not shrinking u either have what they call a short cervix are incompetent cervix. They stitch you to keep u from dalating to earlier cause obviously it cervix keeps open which can cause miscarriage are preterm labor. Its usually followed by complete bed rest. Mean no sex, no baths showers only to prevent infections basically nothing in Vagina. It don't hurt but could cause serious damage to cervix if you don't follow it doctor rules.

no they don't put u too sleep u get a spinal like an epidural. it numbs from just under ur breast down. ur awke through the whole proceedure. and taken back to ward until its worn off and u have passed urine. whole proceedure takes about 20 mins or less. The doctor usually scans me after just to make sure baby is ok and not in any distress. u will bleed for a few days and will b given antibiotics to prevent infection.

They can't put you to sleep. That is unsafe for mom and baby.

A low cervix may be weak & they will sew it to insure full term pregnancy precaution for spontanous miscarriages

My friend had that happen. Her cervix or uterus muscle wasn't holding the baby. Forgot what that is called. Her baby needed steroids too.  However, she was on bed rest until after 30 weeks and then her water broke, her baby was about 2 1/2 months premature.

I think it's called an incompetent cervix or cervical insufficiency.the heavier your baby grows the more weight is put on your cervix. Only 1 in 100 pregnancies has this problem
