I haven't personally used them yet. I plan to with this baby. My aunt uses them though and she loves them! She told me that the best thing is to make sure you can do the full wash/dry cycle in the same day. If they sit in the washer they tend get mildewy and yucky. She loves them because her daughter has never had a rash and she'll be a year next week!
I used cloth diaper service. It was best way to go. It costs about the same as buying them and cleaning them yourself except way more convenient and less disgusting. My son was fully potty trained by about 2 years old. I think it was the cloth diapers that helped him learn. I would use disposable diapers when we're were out and about or in the car travelling for a distance. But overall cloth diapers were used 90% of the time very healthy and good choice. I'm going to use diaper service again.
Thank you ladies all this helps..
I have about 30 diapers and they last 3-4 days between loads, or weekly when, combined with disposables. All in ones and pocket diapers have worked best for me. Alva brand, bum genius, and some random other styles. We started at 4-6 weeks, which was ok bc i didnt have newborn sizes and bc my newborn had about 12-15 dirty diapers a day! She was very sensitive and i found cloth irritated her skin less than disposable as well. And they are very cute, very bulky when theyre so small, but cute! Also you cant always feel if theyre wet by touching the outside, you may have to actually get a finger in there or undo the diaper to check....
Id say, make sure you learn to wash and dry them properly so you dont ruin them or have them becone less absorbant & leaky. It is a process, but not terrible. I rinse mine and then put in a diaper bin until enought are ready to wash. I have a combo of all in ones ( bum genius which, are my night diapers), pocket one size fits all (alva brand), and prefold pin ons (these are tricky and less absorbant but still do the job- i use them with thirsties shells.) I got a bunch of different styles and tried them to find what works best. I usually have disposables too for when shes at a sitter or when were out (though u can get wet bags), or when shes rashy and needs ointment (ointment ruins the cloth diapers). Also you can look into re-usable flanel or cloth wipes to save money, and wash em right with diapers. My girl is 15 months now and i use flushable liners so easier cleaning the poo out of her diapers (when she was primarily breastfed it was much easier to rinse)... if you have any specific questions i can answer to best of my ability... good luck
