A humidifier, even if it's cool mist, will just add moisture to the air which you don't want. An air conditioner is actually a dehumidifier so it cools and takes moistur out of the air. I have window fans and they are great. The also have small air conditioners that you can get pretty cheap for a window.

You're welcome. :-)  Like I said though, if you face it blowing out (which works great for getting all the hot air out of the room) then you'll still want a regular fan just to keep the air circulating and something that you can have blowing on you to keep you cool. It's obviously not the perfect solution but it makes a hot place liveable. Lol

I love window fans, if you put one in facing out then it kind of ***** all the hot air out of the room so just have a regular fan running on the opposite side of the room and it will really cool it down. And then on pretty day's you can flip it around and all the cool air will blow in. I use to do this all the time when I lived somewhere that didn't have central ac or window units.

A cool mist humidifier might be helpful. It won't cool the whole place but I have one in my room now and love it. Otherwise try to find a used window AC and definitely some window fans like you said.
